Family Chores - From Terrible Twos To Troublesome Teenagers

As a mother, I’m sure you know just how much household work there is to do every single week. It never seems to get any easier, does it?! But the good new is that you shouldn’t have to do all the household yourself. I’m sure your partner already helps you out from time to time. Could you do with a little extra help? Well, why not get your kids involved! No matter how old your children are, they will be able to help you out with small jobs and tasks. They may not be so keen, though! But here are some great ideas to get kids of all ages working around the house.

From Two To Five Years Old

Toddlers are too young to help you out around the house, but once your kids hit two, they will be able to help you with very simple jobs. For instance, you can start to encourage to tidy up their own toys once they have finished playing with them. The best way to do this is to turn it into a game. For instance, you could set them the challenge of cleaning everything away in a limited amount of time. Even though this may not seem like such a big chore, it gets them used to the idea that they are expected to help at home. And that means there will be fewer arguments as they get older and are expected to do more!

From Six To Eight Years Old

This age group may be slightly difficult to persuade to do chores as they will be too busy playing! But once your kids hit this age, they will be able to help with things like emptying the dishwasher, getting dressed themselves, and making their own beds. It’s a good idea to try and encourage them turning these chores into a game, just like you would with younger children. Remember to offer plenty of praise once they have finished their chores so that they know they’ve done well!

From Nine to Twelve Years

Kids this age love their tech. Getting some smart tech, like pet feeders and robot lawn mowers, for your home that you can use for your chores will hook kids’ attention. It will make them actually want to do chores! When you get smart home products installed, you should have the opportunity to download lots of apps to use them with. Kids will love this interaction side to all their chores!

Teenagers

Teenagers will take a lot more convincing to do their chores! As mentioned before, smart tech will help to get them on board, but you might have to also offer an incentive. Now that your kids are old enough, you can offer them an allowance that they can earn by doing various work and chores around the house. If they don’t do their chores, you can then dock money from their weekly allowance! They’ll always do their chores if it means getting some cash for the weekend!

As you can see, getting kids to help with chores is super easy!
