We all have things we don't like to do but that need to be done. It could be doing the laundry or driving to the store. Sometimes, you can get someone else to do it, so long as you do something they don't like. But you often just have to suck it up and get it done, especially if it's a pressing matter. Still, having to suffer through something you don't like can be a drag. You would rather not have to do it at all, but since you do have to do it, you might as well try to make it less awful. So what can you do to help you deal with it?
Make It More Fun
It would be great if anything you didn't like were much more fun. Whether you get bored doing the ironing or working out, having something to entertain you can make it less tedious. Fortunately, there are some methods you can use to take the edge off something boring. First of all, putting some music on will almost always put you in a better mood. If you don't need to concentrate too hard, watching TV or listening to an audiobook or podcast can help too. Or you can turn what you're doing into a game to make it a bit more interesting.
Use Hands-off Options
There are some jobs you might not like doing because you don't want to get too up close and personal. It could be a gross job, or maybe it even involves getting rid of pests you don't want to go near. For these jobs, you can find ways to do them without getting too close. For example, you can use peppermint spider oil to get rid of spiders. Instead of having to trap a spider under a glass, you can spray some oil to avoid having to get near any creepy crawlies. You can also pay someone else to do the jobs you don't want. For example, you can send your laundry out to be washed and ironed by a professional service.
Focus on the Outcome
Sometimes, it's all about the attitude you have when you complete a task. If you can remain positive and focus on the results you want to achieve, it can help you get your job done more easily. A lot of tasks you don't enjoy doing can seem pointless, but identifying why you need to do them can help to motivate you. Even if it's just so you can enjoy your clean house, it can make tasks more bearable.
Take Preventative Measures
Another thing you can do is take steps to help you avoid having to do something. If you use preventative measures instead, you might not have to do something or could at least put it off. For example, to avoid having to spend lots of time cleaning the bathroom, you could give things a quick clean after using them. While it doesn't help you avoid the task completely, it makes it more manageable.
Everyone has tasks they don't enjoy, but we all have to do them. If you want to make them less painful, find ways to change how you approach them.
