Good health and proper adult nutrition with Abbott!

Our January may not have started well, but I'm just so glad we've overcome it. We're more careful now than ever and doing our best to keep my family healthy. I've been cooking more these days, reminding them daily to take their vitamins and to drink their milk.

I also do the same thing to my parents. We live away from them, but I make sure their needs are taken care of. Thankful for social media as our means of communication and to Shopee, because I get to shop for my parents' needs and have it delivered straight to their doorsteps!

Lactum 3+: For Immunity, Brain, and Bones

Did I mention that my kids love milk? Yes, they do! And it's a good thing because it plays a role in their growth and development. That's why we love Lactum because it helps support their all-around development, of course, with proper nutrition and stimulation.

I understand that my kids may not be getting all the nutrients they need. And Lactum 3+ helps fill in nutritional gaps as it contains essential nutrients found in food groups from the food pyramid.

Clean and Sweet-smelling Hands with Belo Baby Hand Sanitizers

Mommies could go crazy when it comes to the welfare of their children. But that’s only because, we want what’s best for them, as cliché as it may sound but it’s the reality, right? And, that is why; I tend to become overprotective of my children. However, I found out that being overprotective is not actually good at all times. Kids are kids, they need to play and explore and that includes getting their hands dirty and sometimes even bruised knees but what matters is that they are happy and learning which helps them become well rounded individuals.

With that being said, I allow my 3 kids, Tristan, Athena and Brianna play, explore outdoors, have fun and just be kids. At the same time, I also let them understand the importance of their health and safety. Aside from teaching them to eat healthy to keep them away from diseases, I  taught them to be extra careful and also by teaching them basic safety precautions such as washing their hands properly especially after every play, before eating and after using the toilet, good thing they are very eager to learn. However, washing their hands is almost impossible to do most especially when we are outdoors, that’s why I see to it that I always bring an alcohol or a hand sanitizer with us.

And, a couple of days ago, I posted on Instagram about my recent discovery—these fruity and baby chic Hand Sanitizers which is a new line of product from Belo Baby. If you still haven’t heard, Belo Baby is a product line targeting mothers and was introduced by Belo last April 2016. Its first product line includes Bath and Body products such as the Face and Body Lotion, Hair and Body Wash, Bar Soap and Colognes.

When I first found out about this Belo Baby Hand Sanitizers, I never hesitated to use it to my kids. I was actually excited that when we got it I was the first one who tried it. We have been using these for almost a week now and here are things I love about it:
  • It kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria.
  • Carefully formulated without triclosan, parabens, benzalkonium, chloride, quats, glycols, chlorine, formaldehyde carriers, petrochemicals, and most common allergens.
  • Hypoallergenic
  • Dermatologist-tested
  • With glycerin, that moisturizes and an ulta-mild that leaves skin fresh

Belo Baby Hand Sanitizers are available in three fruity scents:

  • Peach- smells powdery but a bit strong, however it’s not overpowering once sprayed on the hands.
  • Green Apple- has a fresh after shower scent.
  • Blueberry- smells sweet and yummy like candies.
I love all its scent, but my favourite is the Blueberry. My kids also have their own personal favourites, Tristan likes the Green Apple, and Athena likes the Blueberry and Peach for Brianna.

Overall, we love these Belo Baby Hand Sanitizers; we use it even we’re just at home. The kids are very fond of its fresh fruity scent while I am of course happy that it’s 100% safe for them because it doesn’t contain those harmful chemicals that can harm their delicate skin. This is definitely a must have item in the house. I’m planning to replace the alcohol from Tristan and Athena’s hygiene kit at school with these hand sanitizers. It’s going to be a sweet reminder for them to always keep their hands clean!

Belo is trusted by many and most celebrities when it comes to cosmetics and beauty and I’m glad that they have extended their expertise in providing safe and quality products not just for babies but the whole family.

Belo Baby products are indeed crafted with care for the most delicate skin, for the most meticulous moms. I highly recommend it!

Belo Baby Hand Sanitizers cost Php49.75 each

Five Must-do Annual Exams for Every Woman

Christmas Season is upon us, the most wonderful and glorious time of the year. It's a time for thanksgiving, celebration, and the ripe month to fully enjoy the fruits of your labor. And just because you think your 13th month pay and bonus are just a cherry on top, aside from Christmas shopping, these hard-earned cash deserves to be saved and spent well on things with lasting impact on your health and sanity. With this in mind, let these 5 must-do lists from Jeunesse Anion Sanitary Napkins and Liners’ OB-Gyn Faith Suluen serve as your guide to encourage you to make time and set aside a budget for these screenings.

1. Pap Smear and Pelvic Exam

Since it’s the quick screening test/procedure and the gold standard that detects precancerous or cancerous cells from papillomavirus or HPV, it’s essential to catch early any possible abnormal growth whether you’re sexually active by age 21 or the disease runs in the family. If you haven’t had a cervical vaccination, don’t hesitate to talk to your OB-Gyn or employer/health card provider to check if it’s part of your package, which according to Dr. Faith, is especially advantageous for women without a prior sexual contact.

2. Transvaginal ultrasound

Ensure your reproductive system (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, cervix, and vagina) is on its absolute best. Highly recommended for checking irregularities or possible cysts, pelvic pain, unexplained vaginal bleeding and more, the ultrasound probe allows the doctor to see a bird’s eye view of the organs with more accurate results.

3. Mammogram and Breast Ultrasound

Although breast cancer is deemed as one of the leading causes of death among women worldwide, it’s totally curable and controllable with the help of early detection and regular screening. Both mammogram (for 40 years old and above) and breast ultra sound (for 40 years old and below) is powerful tools even before a woman experiences its symptoms, so consider these tests as your major partners in prevention and to ensure full mammary health throughout your lifetime.

4. Blood Chemistry Test

Make a point to regularly monitor blood pressure and cholesterol, which are lifesavers from heart disease and stroke. Remember that the tender age of 20 should be a starting point of your biannual blood pressure monitoring habit with cholesterol checking every four to six years, but perhaps more frequently if age, weight, lifestyle habits, and family history are major factors of developing your risks.

5. Routine Urinalysis

Considered as one of the simplest yet most powerful screening tests that detect UTI, kidney disorders, liver problems, and diabetes, it also helps to diagnose specific disorders such as endocrine diseases and bladder cancer. Even if you don’t feel any abdominal or back pain and abnormalities in your urine, it’s a preventive test that will keep your urinary system at the pink of their health.

The budget and time you set aside for wellness will determine whether or not this old adage rings true for you. So as a grown-up woman who’s also fussy about your sanitary pads, choose quality and mull over a brand that can do more for you, like Jeunesse Anion. Since its anion strip feature is uniquely on its own that greatly helps in reducing feminine discomforts like dysmenorrhea, cramps, and icky odor, consider this to be one of your most valuable essentials as a smart and wellness-conscious woman. Available in 5 variants from panty liner, ultra day pad, ultra day non-wing, ultra night pad, to all night pad, these choices ensure that you’re covered throughout every stage of your red days and helps relieve the not-so- pleasant side effects of being a lady.

Old Orchard Cranberry’s 5 Simple Lifestyle Tweaks for a Healthier Lifestyle

It's the last day of November, next thing we know it's already Christmas then New Year. Together with New Year is that undying New Year's Resolution which I'm guilty of making yearly. I'm sure you all can relate to this, right? And, one of the most common resolution is staying fit and healthy. . Being fit and healthy should be a lifestyle and not just a resolution, however, while others may be successful others are still striving for many reasons.

Striving for a healthier lifestyle can actually be refreshing and easily achieved with the help of the American juice brand, Old Orchard Cranberry Juice. Did you know that Cranberries are distinguished in the nutrition world because they boast various health benefits? This gives consumers better options and alternatives on how to care for their bodies and live a healthy lifestyle.

A couple of weeks ago, I got a bottle of Old Orchard Cranberry Juice together with other Fly Ace Products.

One of the main health benefits of drinking Cranberry Juice is that it helps prevent Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) from occurring and worsening, as cranberries are a rich source of Flavonoid and Phytonutrient contents called hippuric acid and proanthocyanidin, which provide antioxidant and antimicrobial benefits. Considering that UTI is one of the 2nd most common infections in the body, it’s amazing that a small fruit like cranberry could help prevent infection and permanent damage to the kidneys if not taken care of. So if you’re looking for other ways to give your urinary system some TLC, take heed of these advices from Philippine-USA registered dietitian-nutritionist Cheshire Que, RDN:

1. Level up your hydration status. “It is human nature to seek water in variety of forms to quench thirst and cool the skin simply because the body is made up of 45 to 75 percent of water”, asserts Que. However, this simple tip is harder than you think since it takes discipline and conscious effort on a daily basis. “Water helps flush out bacteria that saves your bladder from infections, so keep yourself hydrated throughout the day by consciously drinking water whether or not you are thirsty. We can also add various types of beverages aside from water, but practice moderation on drinking liquids that contain sugar, fat, and alcohol,” adds Que.

2. Prioritize your “pee” time. We’ve heard it many times before and let us say this again: Don’t put off your pee the moment you feel it as to prevent bacteria from colonizing in your bladder. Que prescribes: “Urinating helps regulate blood pressure and removes the body’s waste product called urea--so fully emptying your bladder with adequate fluid intake can ward off not just UTI but kidney stone formation”.

3. Practice good hygiene. Unfortunately, women are more prone to UTI than men so ladies should learn this technique on how to properly keep their nether region clean: Wipe your intimate area from front to back all the time and opt for a cotton underwear since it’s more breathable than any material.

4. Give your immune system a boost. Different external factors such as stress happens and can take a toll on our mind and body, which compromises our immunity. That’s why Que’s advice is to load up on nutrient-rich foods such as citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, and berries coupled with at least 7 hours of sleep and exercise that help strengthen your defense against bacterial infection.

5. Sip cranberry juice. Don’t get bogged down thinking that cranberries are just for your cocktails; cranberry juice is one of the best diuretics out there. It’s also good to know that drinking cranberry for UTI isn’t just an old wives’ tale. According to Que, “Cranberries contain phytochemicals and antioxidants that help prevent UTI. Its bioactive compounds called proanthocynidins flush out bacteria, specifically E. Coli.”

Old Orchard Cranberry Juices are grown, harvested, and packed in a modern facility in Michigan, USA, where the great-tasting and perfect blends of juices are whipped up daily. You can be sure that every drop is healthy and stable before even reaching your glasses. Old Orchard Cranberry Juice is available in 3 delicious variants: Cranberry, Apple Cranberry and Cranberry Raspberry. There are also diabetic-friendly variants that contain 75% less sugar and only 20 calories: Healthy Balance Cranberry and Healthy Apple Balance. Coupled with a healthy lifestyle and a balanced diet, there is no shortage of fun and flavorful ways of protecting and loving your bladder while nourishing your whole family.

Tips on How To Age Well featuring Nutrawell Collagen with Astaxanthin and Hyaluronic Acid

Aging is inevitable, and together with aging is the physical signs of it, fine lines, wrinkles, crow's feet and more. But we can always choose how we age by taking care of our health. Taking care of our health and beauty go hand-in- hand. In fact, the foundation of nurturing and maintaining your youthful vibrancy relies on adopting daily health habits. To help you get started on living a better life while ageing with grace, here are simple health and beauty tips that will keep you radiant.

Eat Healthy Food

Enjoying plenty of fruits and vegetables everyday goes a long way in maintaining your youthful glow. Coupled with whole grains and lean proteins, a diet rich in these natural goodies can help the skin maintain its healthy complexion. Including organic sources of omega-3 fatty acids in your diet also contributes to keeping the skin strong and elastic. On the other hand, eating food rich in anti-oxidants bolsters the body’s ability to combat the effects of sun damage and pollution on the skin. As an added bonus, anti-oxidants also fight free radicals that lead to wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Maintain an Exercise Routine

While the benefit of exercise on keeping your desired weight has long been known, it also has a direct effect on keeping skin beautiful. Exercise increases blood flow, ensuring enough nutrients and oxygen reaches your skin. The blood flow also helps skin cells flush away toxins and waste products, helping the body in its natural detoxification process through the liver. Regular exercise also tones your muscles, helping boost your overall look. Just remember to avoid excess tension when you exercise, especially on your neck and chest area. Prolonged tension will pull-down your facial muscles, making you look less youthful.

Keep Everything Clean

It is absolutely important to keep yourself clean. Regular cleansing washes away dead skin cells and any toxic build-up on the skin that could lead to blemishes and poor complexion. But you must remember to be gentle! Use mild soaps and cleansers with warm water, this way you don’t strip away essential oils from your skin. After cleansing, remember to use a moisturizer to keep your skin supple. Most importantly, your bed has to be clean too. If you don’t change your sheets often, any dirt or bacteria on your bed can cause unexpected breakouts.

Manage Your Stress

Stress causes wrinkles, fine lines, acne breakouts and other skin blemishes. In some cases, stress even leads to eye bags, dry skin, grey hair, and hair loss – especially when it is uncontrolled and left unchecked. While the most immediate way to be rid of stress would be through regular massages,
there are more practical methods to alleviate stress that can be done in your own time without any
additional cost. Daily stretching and meditation sessions do a great deal in reducing stress levels. Spend at least 20 minutes a day calming yourself while breathing deeply to keep stress at bay. It will help you look more refreshed and beautiful.

Avoid What Damages Your Skin

Other than processed food, refined sugars, alcohol, and cigarette smoke – the sun is among the leading sources of skin damage. Even when you’re indoors, the sun’s harmful UV rays can still take a toll. That is why it is incredibly important to always use sunscreen. At the bare minimum, use sunscreen with SPF 15– and they must be reapplied every two hours. When it’s especially sunny outside, it’s best to use protective clothing that can block ultraviolet rays. Another important tip is to always drink water, to offset any moisture and hydration lost from heat exposure. Constant hydration also helps the body cleanse itself while keeping the skin supple.

A great way to support your daily routine would be to boost it with all-natural food supplements, giving your body all the nutrients it needs to strengthen itself and maintain its youthful vibrancy. While the choice of food supplement is best decided between you and your Physician, there’s one readily available, over-the- counter product tailor made to manage the ageing process. Generika Drugstore’s Nutrawell Collagen helps the body repair and protect the skin, keeping you beautiful as you age. Certified as organic under the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS), it contains key components that nurture the skin from within.

I attended its launch last October where I get to know more about this product. With the many Collagen drink in the market today, what makes Nutrawell different? - It has Astaxanthin and Hyaluronic Acid.

Nutrawell Collagen is a powder mix that can either be taken on its own or mixed in your favourite drink or food. It has 5000mg of marine Collagen that rejuvenates skin firmness and radiance. Its 60mg of Hyaluronic Acid helps prevent osteoarthritis, cataracts, infections, and skin dryness. The 70ug of Astaxanthin helps protect the skin from UV damage. It is a powerful carotenoid anti-oxidant that helps promote eye health while also aids in preventing cancer. Research also suggest that Astaxanthin is a potential aid in cardiovascular health by possibly lowering down triglycerides, raising good cholesterol and improving blood flow.

Nutrawell Collagen also contains Elastin which helps the skin remain elastic, Biotin which boosts skin, nails and hair health plus it also helps to ease eczema and dermatitis and L-Cystein which can lighten one’s complexion. Of the powder mix’s components, Vitamin C is among the most critical as it is an anti-oxidant that helps the body strengthen its tissues, keeps the heart healthy, and boosts the body’s ability to produce and repair collagen.

So happy for this, thank you so much Generika and Nutrawell!
Healthy habits paired with the right food supplements can help you keep fit and age with grace. Through these healthy tips and Generika Drugstore’s latest age-management innovation, you can enjoy more out of life while retaining your youthful vigor.

Defeat Dengue thru Allied Against Dengue Movement + Dengue FAQs

7 years ago when I was 7 months pregnant with our eldest, I got really sick. My OB's diagnosis was UTI so she prescribed medicines and sent me home to rest. Two days after, I still wasn't feeling any better in fact I was feeling even more sick, severe headache, fever was still there, my cough and colds was giving me a hard time breathing and I was feeling really weak. And that's when we decided to rush to the emergency room where I was admitted right away. We were all worried especially for the baby inside me, because if I don't get better I might give birth prematurely. A machine was attached to me to closely monitor my baby.  Several laboratory tests were also done until we found out the culprit. My IgM test came back positive for dengue fever! It was a scary news, but I was relieved to learn that it wasn't the hemorrhagic fever which is considered as the severe one. We stayed for a couple more days in the hospital until I was feeling all better. I just then visited my OB frequently to monitor my baby. Thank God everything went well and I was able to deliver my baby healthy and full term.
It was my first personal and scary encounter with dengue, I can't imagine the pain and fear I've been through. Despite being a Nurse who is knowledgeable about the disease and was able to care for dengue patients before, experiencing dengue personally was a totally different thing. I am hoping that no one else in my family gets to experience it too so I'm doing my best in order to prevent it. That is why I'm glad that I was invited to become an Ally against dengue and got to attend the launching of the Allied Against Dengue Movement last July 12, 2016.

DOH Undersecretary Dr. Enrique Tayag, Philippine Pediatric Society Vice President Dra. Salvacion Gatchalian, DOH Disease Prevention and Control Bureau Director Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy, GlaxoSmithKline General Manager Heather Pelier, and Calpol mom Jolina Magdangal-Escueta.

The Allied Against Dengue Movement was founded by GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Philippines Inc. (GSKCH), united with Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Pharmacist Association Inc. (PPHA), Mercury Drug Corporation (MDC), Smartparenting.com.ph and CNN Philippines to create a non-profit open platform with the aim to empower healthcare providers, organizations and communities; and reduce the impact of dengue on the nation in a holistic manner from prevention and control to management.

Dengue infection is prevalent in the world and Southeast Asia is the Epicenter of dengue mosquito breeding due to its tropical climate. Here in the Philippines, the disease outbreak is spreading to more areas and impacting more lives. In 2015 there were 200, 415 reported dengue fever cases, a 60% increase over 2014 which had 121,000 cases. This year, the incidence rate even shot higher with cases escalating 33% in the first quarter compared to the same quarter last year.

Proud Allies against Dengue, Top/Seasoned Blogger Rowena Lim of www.animetric.net and Celebrity Calpol mom Jolina Magdangal-Escueta sharing advises and insights about Dengue
The movement aims to lead change and create a bigger impact to society through collaborative partnerships with the DOH, private institutions, healthcare providers, media influencers, and community leaders to help bring down the incidence rate of and deaths caused by dengue fever. And with the deployment of a robust nationwide education campaign through multiple channels, Allied Against Dengue seeks to curb the incidence growth rate and ultimately, make a real difference to the lives of Filipino. The coalition strategy will include:
  1. Distribution of 50,000 DOH primers to at least 5 public schools in dengue hotspots in Metro Manila
  2. Distribution of 15,000 leaflets to 1,000 pediatricians and general practitioners
  3. Education of proper dengue fever prevention and management to 20 health centers for Baranggay outreach programs
  4. Implementation of Continuous Pharmacy Education (CPE) Program in identified chapters targeting 200 pharmacists
  5. Education and recruitment of at least 1000 Allies Against Dengue through employee engagement, online and on-ground activation.

Through this Allied Against Dengue Movement I learned more about this dreaded disease and as a Proud Ally against dengue I pledged to do my part and share with you this learning.

International Thyroid Awareness Week Celebration + Things To Know About Thyroid Disorders

“Catching Butterflies: Spotting the Symptoms of Thyroid Disorders in Children” is the theme of this years' International Thyroid Awareness Week Celebration which was culminated by Merck Inc. and ETC 2nd Avenue at the Fisher Mall Event center last May 28, 2016. The butterfly theme was chosen to represent the thyroid, which is a butterfly shaped organ found at the base of our necks.

Little did we know, millions of Filipinos are affected by thyroid disorders, yet very few are aware of them. In a study conducted by the Philippine Society for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in 2012, it showed that one in 11 Filipino adults has goiter, and around one in 12 Filipino adults suffers from some form of thyroid disease. Around 8 in every 1000 children worldwide are affected by thyroid disease but only a handful get properly diagnosed and treated.

The “Catching Butterflies: Spotting the Symptoms of Thyroid Disorders in Children” event aims to increase the awareness of the thyroid and the disorders that can affect children and adults. This is because if thyroid hormone imbalances are left undiagnosed and untreated, they can have harmful effect on a child’s brain development, growth and physical maturity. The awareness campaign showed that thyroid disorders are treatable with early screening and proper treatment.

During the event, a panel of experts from the Philippines Society for Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism, the Philippine Thyroid Association, and the Iodine Global Network conducted a talk on how to recognize and treat thyroid disorders. They also conducted a Free Doctor's Consultation and Thyroid Screening.

The event was not only educational but also fun-filled, aside from the beautiful decorations there were also many other activities that both children and parents enjoyed together.

There was as on-the spot art competition.

Butterfly face painting

Butterfly Cookie Art. Took home some for the kids and they liked it!

There were also butterfly clay art, dance performances, Hypo- Butterfly and Hyper-Butterfly Mascots and so much more. How I wish I brought the kids along, I'm sure they would have loved it!

ETC 2nd Avenue also had a booth where attendees took their photos on the photo wall, posted it to their social media accounts using the hashtags #thyroidawareness and #wearebraver, have it printed at the booth and instantly win a prize. I participated and won a Flawless Stem cell Cleanser, yey!

There are a lot of people who may have thyroid disorders, but aren’t even aware until it is too late. It is important to have one’s thyroid checked as early as possible, especially if there is family history of the disease, or during pregnancy. Prevention, proper information and early detection will always be better than cure that comes too late.

Here are some important things you should know about Thyroid Disorders:

1. What is Thyroid?

The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped organ located at the base of the neck. The thyroid produces and stores thyroid hormones, which are essential to the normal development of the body, as well as its normal metabolism and function. Thyroid hormones affect practically all systems of the body, from the brain, to the heart, to the stomach, the reproductive system, etc.

2. What are the difference between hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism?
  • Hypothyroidism is when your thyroid doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone. Thus, metabolism is slowed. Patients typically complain of weight gain (even without increasing appetite), cold intolerance, chronic fatigue, sadness/depression, slowed speech patterns, slow heart rate, dry/brittle hair, constipation, and menstrual irregularities.
  • Hyperthyroidism is when there is too much thyroid hormone, and Symptoms are typically opposite that of hypothyroidism. Patients will note weight loss, sweating, insomnia and irritability, fast heart rate and palpitations, hair loss, diarrhea, and menstrual irregularities.
 3. How can thyroid disorders be diagnosed?

Diagnosis is made by a physician based on the results of blood tests- TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and thyroid hormone levels in the blood.

4. How to asses your own Thyroid?

Facing a mirror, lift your chin up and inspect your neck. Swallow, and if you see a mass at the base of the neck moving up and down, you may need to consult your doctor for goiter.

Also be aware of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, so you can consult a doctor when you note you have them.

5. How can hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism be treated?
  • Hypothyroidism is treated with thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
  • Hyperthyroidism is treated with anti-thyroid drugs, which lower the level of thyroid hormones in the body.
6. Should children be screened for Thyroid problems?

Parents should be aware of the symptoms of thyroid disorders so they can bring their child to the doctor. If they notice mood and behavior changes, difficulty learning, and other signs, consult a doctor.
7. Should pregnant women undergo screening for thyroid problems?

It is recommended that women get screened for thyroid disorders if:
  • previous history of thyroid disorders, thyroid surgery
  • above 30
  • family history of thyroid disorders
  • previous history of pregnancy loss or difficulty getting pregnant
  • living in iodine deficiency areas
8. How can Thyroid disorders affect pregnant women and the unborn baby?

Thyroid disorders, if untreated, can lead to negative outcomes for the mother and child. Conditions like eclampsia and placenta previa can occur. Furthermore, the child might have developmental abnormalities, especially with mental and cognitive abilities. Children with mothers who are iodine deficient or hypothyroid can have lower IQs.
Ask your doctor about thyroid screening if you are pregnant.

9. What type of foods are good for the Thyroid?

People are encouraged to take iodized salt, to avoid iodine deficiency, the most common cause of goiter.

10. Is Thyroid Disorder hereditary?

There is a hereditary component to thyroid problems. If you have a relative who has thyroid disorders, you should regularly have yourself checked.

Product Review | Doctor J 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol: Trusted by Hospitals and Households

One of our must have item in the house is a rubbing alcohol and I prefer the 70% Isopropyl among others. We always make sure that there is a big bottle of alcohol in the house and a small handy one whenever we're on the go. Tristan and Athena also got 1 small bottle each in their hygiene kit at school. I taught the kids the importance of hand washing especially before and after eating, using the bathroom and after playing. However, it's almost impossible to do it most especially when we are outdoors, and that is when rubbing alcohol saves the day!

To my delight, I have received a 500ml bottle of Doctor J 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol together with the Mighty Mom Dishwashing Liquid that I reviewed here. Both brands are from Kohl Industries Corporation.

This isn't the first time that I've heard about Doctor J. We first came across this brand last April when Athena was confined at University of Perpetual Help Dalta Medical Center here in Las Pinas, her hospital kit includes a small bottle of Doctor J 70% Isopropyl Alcohol.

And after some research, I found out that Doctor J Alcohol is actually a top quality alcohol-disinfectant known in the Philippine market for a long time already, yes, since 1994! Kohl Industries Corporation has acquired the rights for the brand in June 2002, and in 2003 transformed the Doctor J brand into a leading alcohol-disinfectant of choice by major hospitals in the country. Yes it is, remember it was in Athena's hospital kit?

So what do I like about Doctor J 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol?

1. Trustworthy- It's a top choice by major hospitals and used by millions of households, so I put my 100% trust in it.

2. Better formulations-  It contains high quality, non-recycled alcohol making it an effective disinfectant and antiseptic.

3. Contains natural moisturizers- It's gentle so goodbye drying and say hello to soft hands!

4. Clean fragrant scent- It's like a cologne, leaving your hands smelling clean and fragrant for long. *ts fragrance is imported from Grasse, France!

5. Packaging- The one they sent me is 500ml perfect size for a family of 5 and it comes in a pump dispenser which is what I prefer because it's easier to use.

Doctor J is also available in following sizes:
  • 1 Gallon
  • 1 Liter
  • 500mL pump
  • 500mL bottle
  • 250mL
  • 150mL
  • 60mL
Con:
There's only one thing I noticed with the pump dispenser, the alcohol leaks on the bottom part of the pump so make sure it's always standing up to avoid it from spilling. That's all.

Seriously, this is now my new favorite alcohol brand. Will definitely make a purchase once we consumed this bottle they sent me. Have you tried using this yet? If you haven't, I suggest you do and who knows, you might make a switch too just like me!

Health Comes First on World Health Day and Beyond

Like any other mothers I strive to keep my family healthy by practicing basic health measures and by continuously staying updated on current healthcare issues. However, the fact remains that there is still so much more that can be done to improve the health of every family and the nation.

Good thing, we have the World Health Day to celebrate yearly and to remind us that health should always come first. And, in celebration to this years World Health Day which was last April 7, 2016, Safeguard launched "Health Watch", a lecture series aimed to equip Filipino moms with the information and the skills that they need to continue to keep their family healthy.

I'm with my 2 year old Brianna because before the Health Watch lecture, we attended the Superdudes meet and greet event which I blogged about here
It was a privilege to be one of the mommy bloggers who get to attend the first Health Watch lecture held last April 6, 2016 in Makati City. UNICEF shared with us figures about the State of Filipino Children’s Health. According to a report entitled “A Decade of Tracking Progress for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Survival” conducted in 2015, sad to say that Philippines is among 26 countries which has contributed to 80% of global deaths of children under 5 years old.

Another report by A Promise Renewed cited that 3 out of 100 children under 5 years old in the Philippines die due to:

  • neonatal health conditions (45%),
  • pneumonia (18%), and
  • diarrhea (7%).
But did you know that some of these deadly diseases are easily prevented through the simple act of handwashing? Handwashing with soap and water helps reduce the incidence of diarrhea among children by up to 50% and respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia by up to 25%. Among infants, handwashing has also helped reduce infections, which constitute 16% of neonatal conditions.

To address this problem, Procter & Gamble, through Safeguard, partnered with UNICEF in implementing its Water Sanitation and Health (WASH) Program, which includes health and hygiene education among children. I remember last month my son Tristan who is in Kindergarten went home from school with a bottle of safeguard hand soap and a Clean Hands, Healthy Kids activity book. According to him, someone went to their school and taught them to always wash their hands to fight germs and sickness. It made an impact on my son, he likes washing his hands now more than ever, thanks to the WASH Program, I find it highly effective.

However, beyond this program to help reduce the incidences of deadly diseases, Safeguard also recognizes the importance of health in the context of everyday activities at home. So on World Health Day, Safeguard emphasized that proper hygiene every day also plays an important role in keeping families healthy.
Actual demo of proper hand washing
At the first Health Watch lecture, Safeguard taught us about First Aid basics, including proper wound care, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC). According to the PRC, the simple act of washing a wound with soap has been beneficial in reducing infections among children, infections which could eventually develop to more serious diseases. Wounds are often the primary entry point of germs and bacteria, thus, wound care is considered a crucial step in disease prevention.

But before treating our children’s minor burns and wounds, proper sanitation is equally important among us mommies. As the First Aiders, Parents must be aware that the first important step is washing our hands before treating our children. Washing the wound with soap and water for 5 minutes also greatly reduces the chance of infection, tetanus, scarring, and tattooing of the skin from dirt left in the wound.

We were also taught the proper use of bandage
So mommies, whether it’s a serious disease like diarrhea or everyday complaint like a new wound from playing outdoors, we should always be alert in keeping our family protected.

We learned a lot from the lecture thanks to Safeguard and their partners from DOH, UNICEF and PRC for a successful Health Watch Lecture
And, with the slogan "Family Germ Protection" the trusted name Safeguard continues to be committed and consistent in promoting health and hygiene for 50 years now. There's nothing more reassuring than knowing that we have partners in health, right mommies?

So beyond just World Health Day, Safeguard reminds us to put our family’s health first!
