Athena's Quarantine 8th Birthday Parties!

Happy 8th birthday Athena!

"Ber-months" is not just Christmas Season in our family, but also birthday season. And it starts with Athena, who shared the same birthday as Mama Mary- September 8. It only seems like yesterday when we were planning her 7th birthday party, and now she's 8!

If it weren't for the pandemic, she would have celebrated her birthday with her classmates in school, or it could be just a simple dinner at home with my in-laws or we eat out. We don't throw big birthday parties, and I'll probably write another blog post about it.

Since September 8 was a Tuesday, we celebrated twice. As you all know, we live with Jaear's parents but they go to work on weekdays, and my sister in law (with her friend who she lives with) who lives in their house in Manila, visited us over the weekend, so we just decided to celebrate. Or, did we just used Athena's birthday as an excuse to have a feast? LOL!

Weekend Recap: First Weekend of July

We're on a new month already, but still under coronavirus pandemic. I only have gone out of the house once to buy food. And, I think, I am not doing it again. Lol. As for the kids, I know they already miss going out. So last weekend, I finally, let them out...of our balcony, that is.

Play Days 2020: Playtime for Parents and Children Amidst Coronavirus

Mommies and daddies, how are you and your kids, holding up? It's been over three months since the mandated community quarantine due to Coronavirus. And, with the school year being pushed back for a few more months, we have no choice but to stay home with our kids for their safety.

This pandemic has sure taught us a lot of things such as, slowing down and spending more quality time with our family. I hope that you get to bond with your kids at home through active play activities, and not just through watching TV or videos online but playing as in actively playing.

Bonding through playtime among parents and kids can tend to be a rare concept nowadays, but still very much important. Playtime between parents and kids doesn’t have to end at fun. |It’s also a way to keep kids active, and healthy- physically and mentally.

Steamed Cream Dory Fillet in Soy Sauce Recipe

I've been a homemaker ever since Jaear and I got married, but until now, meal planning or thinking about what to prepare every meal is still something I haven't mastered. I tried planning our meal weekly, it was great as it helped me save time and from last minute worries. But, the problem is, I keep on listing the same food over and over again. I only know of a few ulam to cook! Haha.

Sundate at the Johnson's Play Days 2019: Sa Laro Natuto

A couple of weeks ago, I posted on Instagram about Johnson's Play Days 2019: Sa Laro Natuto event that we attended. This is the first-ever event that I've attended this year. Since it was already Tristan, Athena and Brianna's summer break and the event falls on a Sunday, we decided to go. Also to show our support to Johnson's Play Day's program that acknowledges the importance of play and how it can benefit our children. This is actually an annual program that was created in 2012.

This year's Play days event, Play Days 2019: Sa Laro Natuto event was held last March 24, 2019, in the Mall of Asia Music Hall.

There were four different play zones at the event, the Blue Think Tub, Pink Showdance Zone, Yellow Imagiland and the Flower Zone. These four zones made any learning experience into an entertaining adventure for any wide-eyed-toddler. It also highlighted how a child can learn different skills like problem-solving, self-expression, communication and flexibility.

Blue Think Tub

Pink Showdance Zone which they enjoyed the most because of the bubbles!

Yellow Imagiland

Flower Zone.

Melai Cantiveros also was there together with her daughter, Mela.

Johnson’s Play Days Sa Laro Natututo is a call for all parents to recognize the importance of your little one to be outside experiencing life actively instead of being confined to a world they only see through any digital screen. Active play allows your children to learn firsthand about the everchanging world and gives them the opportunity to have a multi-sensory understanding of the beautiful planet they live in.

Johnson's highly encourage every parent to allot enough play time with their kids to promote their cognitive, language, physical, social and emotional development.

And, being the leader in baby care and as a company that understands the needs of every parent in giving the best care for their babies and kids, Johsnon's incorporated their Johnson's Baby Powder Blooms. It is Johnson's most fragrant powder that will be every mommy's hero especially this summer when the heat comes creeping in. This powder can keep kids fresh up to 8 hours as they stay out to play. Johnson’s Powder Blooms along with Johnson’s Shiny Drops Shampoo levels up the fragrance for a long lasting, refreshing no tears play day! Johnson's Baby Active Kids Range are available in leading supermarkets, drug stores and department stores nationwide.

So mommies and daddies, if you believe in Johnson's movement, sound off by posting a photo of yourself and your children during your happy playtime moments and how Johnson's Baby is  the best Presko Bango partner. Don't forget to use the hashtag #SaLaroNatuto #JohnsonsActiveKids #PlayDays2019 and tag @johnsonsbabph.

Don't Stress About Days Out With Your Kids

Let’s face it: all of us like to get out and about with the children. It can get quite claustrophobic when you stay indoors with your children a lot, the children can get bored, they could end up watching too much TV, the house gets messy, you have to clean up the mess and can’t supervise the children as much as you would like, and more importantly, staying indoors all day can quickly eat through your energy bills with the heating on, water being run and electric being used for long periods of time.

So, taking our children outdoors is an option which many moms choose over staying inside all day. Sure, there are times when we pretty much have to stay indoors either because of really bad weather, we are waiting for a delivery, we do not feel our usual self, or our children may have a mild illness and you do not want to make it worse by going outside. But, we all love to get outdoors with our kids.

Taking Baby Steps: Sage Advice For New Parents

Being a mom is something else. It’s unlike any feeling in the world. When your first baby comes along, it all changes everything, and I mean everything! While there are countless amounts of baby forums online, you don’t really know if everything you are feeling is the same as everyone else, after all, we’re all different. There are people that tell you how to do certain things, and strangers are quick to criticize if you are doing something “wrong” and doctors tell you that you shouldn’t be exercising during pregnancy, and then you should. It’s all such conflicting information that you can feel full to the brim before your baby is born. So I thought, for any parents to be, or new parents that are reading this blog (and if you are, then your baby must be asleep, in which case, congratulations), here’s some advice for the first few weeks.

How To Keep Our Kids Safe In A Growing Digital World

We all know how much the internet has to offer in our everyday life. It makes it easier to shop, easier to find information, easier to start a business, and easier to share your thoughts with communities and blogs. But it can also be a bit lawless. You don’t want your children getting too exposed to the kind of things you would keep them away from in the real world. But you don’t have to cut them off from the digital world completely. Instead, you can do a little more to make sure they’re using the internet as safely and as responsibly as possible.

Why All Kids Need An Active Hobby

Everyone, including kids, needs hobbies. Hobbies can be stepping stones for our children’s careers later on in life, and help them to develop skills, as well as learn a lot about themselves in the process. There are all kinds of hobbies our kids could take up, but this post is going to focus on why all kids should have a hobby that keeps them active!

Clever Ideas For Engaging Your Kids in Music

I belong to a family of musicians, well except me I guess (haha). Both my parents can sing and play the guitar, my eldest brother can sing, play the bass, guitar and the keyboard, my other brother can sing, play the keyboard and the drums and my sister sings too, play the guitar and the keyboard as well. When I was a kid, I can't sing, but I learned eventually. However, I can't play any musical instrument, my family attempted to teach me play the guitar and the piano but I wasn't just that determined to learn before, which I really regret.

Life Lessons We Need To Know

There are so many valuable life lessons which we teach our kids, but sometimes they may not be the right ones. It’s hard to let them know how great it is to use our imaginations when we are sitting down in front of the television every day; how brilliant it is to meet up with friends when we would rather send a text or place a call; and how to budget money when we ourselves spend it on things that aren’t really necessary.

There are lifestyle choices and changes that can be made in order to teach your children the things that they need to know. But there is one catch to executing them perfectly and helping them to grow up with these values - they need to be made before your children know any different…

The elements are our friends

Wastefulness is one of the biggest crimes against nature that our generation commits. Keeping lights switched on in rooms we haven’t been in in over half an hour, staying in the shower for longer than we should because we can’t be bothered to get out and throwing out packets upon packets of food that we have allowed to go off (or simply not checked to see if are alright, instead judging the Use By date). So why don’t we try and curb those actions? Not only that, but how about we use the elements outside to help us? There are solar panels available in a variety of places online, such as Semper Solaris. These can not only be used to power the lights and appliances in your home (any excess energy that you don’t use and is stored in your batteries can then be sold back to the electricity grid at a discounted rate) but can also be used to heat up the hot water for your baths, showers and general day-to-day usage.

Water of life

As well as using the sun to our benefit, consider how much rainfall there is where you live. It could be worth putting up a water butt to collect water which can be used for a variety of things to stop you using your hose and paying for the privilege. Paddling pools can be filled with it during the warmer months (make sure that it hasn’t had the chance to grow any algae on it; you may want to consider putting in some water conditioner), gardens can be watered with it and you could even put it to good use by cleaning your car. Get the children involved and make a science experiment out of it to keep them interested; a little logbook to note down how much rain has fallen each day could just win them the science fair prize - you never know! Ask them what else you could use the water for, and see how much you will be saving in money on your bills by putting it to good use. The lessons kids can learn from nature are ones that they’ll carry with them forever...

3 Ways To Make Time For Your Kids

As parents, we want to maximize the amount of time we spend with our children and minimize the amount of stress we have in our life. It can often feel like an impossible task when balancing our work, the home and financial pressures of modern life. So how do you make the most of every moment and give your children more quality attention whilst mastering the pitfalls of daily living?

Here are 3 ways to make more time for your kids:

Show Them The Ropes

At some point your children are going to grow up into adults and as silly as it sounds, installing the basic routines an adult needs to function in life is actually one of the most important things you can do. It doesn’t matter what age they are, even toddlers can learn great things from your daily routine.

Preparing your kids to be neat, tidy and organised is a simple way of including them in one of your biggest daily tasks. The housework. Make games out of tidying away. Asking your child to find all the blue toys or show you where the books live, is a really effective way of engaging them in a routine of putting things away. Asking them to help you carry the washing downstairs, even hanging out the washing with mummy can be fun.

Older children are pretty handy with modern technology and computers. If they can master the latest tablet on the market then chances are they can work out how to switch a washing machine on. Do household chores together and use this time to chat about their lives. How school is going, how their friendships are. Work together.

Make Preparations and Reduce Your Financial Stress

Ensuring your home is running efficiently can reduce financial worry and make you a more relaxed parent to be around. Heating our homes accounts for 70% of our household bills. So looking at energy efficient replacement windows or improving your loft insulation can have a great impact on the quality time you spend with your family

Now You’re Cooking!

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner take up a lot of your day so include your children and make it fun. They don’t have to get involved in the actual cooking. Having a table or workspace set aside in your kitchen can be a great place for older children to do their homework or younger children to get creative whilst you are busy. It’s a brilliant time to chat to them about future plans or teach them songs or even to read.

Teaching them to cook though is something you can do from an early age. These books from Nutrikids are a fun addition for young kids, to teach them about healthy eating and make the basic task of cooking a fun and educational part of their day.

Children crave attention from you so learn how to mix up your daily tasks and include them in the boring stuff as much as the fun stuff. You’ll probably find that doing the ironing flies past if you make a game of it and pushing a vacuum around is an easy job for little people that want to be just like mom!

Splash Your Cash: How And How Not To Treat Your Kids

Just like any other mom in the world, my kids are the most important people in my life and that we only want what's best for them, right? So if you have a little spare money, maybe from an inheritance or a bonus or some other kind of windfall, then it makes sense that you’d want to treat your kids. and of course you want to ensure that they always have the best of everything so that they have the best chance of growing up into well-developed rounded human beings. At the same time, you don’t want to let them grow up spoilt. Here are some suggestions about how – and how not – to treat your kids.

DON’T: Toys. With young kids especially, their tastes will change very rapidly over the years. If your older kids want a certain games console or you’d like to treat them to new cell phones – fine. But there’s no point in blowing a huge amount of cash on a Barbie playhouse that your youngest daughter will grow out of very quickly. Make sure you think about longevity and the future

DO: Activities. If you’ve always been a little low on funds, now is the time to send your kids to ballet or art or soccer classes so that they can learn a new skill, make some friends, and have a great time. This will help contribute towards your kids’ future as well as giving them a chance to learn and enjoy something in the present.

DON’T: Craft supplies. Although craft supplies are almost always a great creative gift for kids, there isn’t any point in spending a huge amount of money on them, simply because it’s very easy to get good deals that will ensure you won’t go broke buying paints, crayons and paper. If one of your kids is a fine arts student then go crazy and buy them oil paints and an easel – but if you’re just spending hundreds on stacks of paper and coloured pencils for your little kids to use in the future, your money would be best spent elsewhere.

DO: Clothes. Admittedly, clothes are sometimes more of a gift for you than for your kids – but we all know that it’s great and that it fills us with pride to see them looking smart. If you want to spend a little money, look for good quality brands like baby Versace for clothes that will last a long time – just make sure you buy them a size up so your kids don’t grow out of them too quickly.

DON’T: Whatever they choose. One of the best ways to spoil your kids is by giving them absolutely everything they want without them having to work for it. Appreciating the value of hard work is one of the best gifts that you’ll ever be able to give your offspring.

DO: Vacations. In the long run, people value experiences far more than any material goods. Using your windfall to take your family on vacation will provide invaluable memories in the future and photographs that you’ll love looking back on when your kids are adults and far too cool to go on vacation with you.

EVENT | Athena and Brianna Goes To Barbie's You Can Be Anything Day!

Back in the days, I can play freely in and outdoors unlike these days where crimes are happening left and right making me paranoid to even let my kids out. However, some things remain the same, just like the toys and games I've loved as a child and now by my kids especially my 2 girls. Yes, I'm talking about Barbie! When playing with my Barbie dolls, my imagination soars high up to the sky. I get to make my own story and pretend to be anything I want to be. No wonder why Barbie is the planet's favorite lifestyle icon when it comes to exploring different career paths not just by little girls but grown ups too!

In fact, a quick Google search will tell you that she has held over 130 careers in the span of more than 5 illustrious decades. She has been an astronaut, a surgeon, a veterinarian, an athlete, a pop star, even a presidential candidate at least 5 times. To think that doesn't yet include the hundreds of other jobs and identities that millions of creative young girls around the world have imagined and assigned to her in the comfort of their playrooms throughout the years.

This 2016, however, the tables have been turned; the spotlight is now focused on every young girl and their limitless potential with the introduction Barbie’s You Can Be Anything campaign.

Formally launched to Philippine media last April, the You Can Be Anything Campaign is both a celebration of potential and a challenge on the limits of the imagination of young girls. It is a movement to empower little ladies to pursue and live out their dreams, whatever they may be, and for the adults to encourage them on their journey. It is for these young minds to realize that whatever scene that they can conjure and choose to play out inside the four corners of their room can translate into real life; that the glass ceilings they may encounter on their later years are meant to be shattered and that the only thing standing between them and their goals is the limit of their imagination and determination.

To further extend this message, Richprime Global Inc., the exclusive distributor of Barbie in the country, in partnership with The SM Store and Toy Kingdom, turned sparks into candy-colored flames thus they set up the You Can Be Anything Day at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium last May 29, 2016.

I wouldn't dare to miss this event, so last May 29 we dressed the girls up and went to SM Mall of Asia Atrium for a gateway of imagination. The venue was laden with multiple interactive booths featuring a range of professions young girls freely tried out.

Athena and Brianna experienced creating with their hands at the Doll-icious Bakeshop, where they can design their own cupcake or cookie using the rainbow selection of frosting and toppings available. Afterwards they munched on their own creations with delight! There was also a Barbie Artsy Studio where kids can use their creativity in drawing and coloring.

All these 2 girls did was pose, smile and run around haha
For the more outgoing and expressive girls, they grabbed the opportunity to be a news anchor doing their prime time spiel at the B-TV News Room. They even got to bring home a copy of their news spiel record as a memento.

And of course, any Barbie event wouldn't be complete if there wasn't anything dedicated to beauty and fashion. The Barbie Pink Salon and Fashion Closet is present to cater to the more kikay (but still equally brilliant) bunch.

For the first time Athena and Brianna got to try face painting, they both chose butterfly!

Athena liked her butterfly face paint a lot!

Other kids got to try wearing make up and outfits then have their photos taken.

A short program and interactive fashion show serves as the cherry on top of the fun. Barbie Brand Ambassador also strut the catwalk with Barbie apparels. Andi Eigenmann and her daughter Ellie also graced the event and they tried different booths too!

Would have loved to let this 2 join the fashion show but they are too shy. This photo was taken after the program.
"We're looking at this event as a jump-off point to young Filipina girls," explains Ms. Liza Yao, Managing Director of Richprime Global, Inc. "We want to inspire, and have them see that they can be anything they set their mind to and further beyond that, just like Barbie."
It was indeed a fun and interactive day, I'm sure everyone enjoyed it kids and adults alike! I hope kids get inspired to be like Barbie and do whatever it takes to achieve their dreams. Thanks Barbie!

A Shopkins World Live-Experience in Shopville Manila

Shopkins, the cutest, most adorable collectible toys inspired by items found in grocery and department stores appealing primarily to little girls welcomed its fans in the first-ever Shopkins world live-experience, the Shopville Manila.

Since its Philippine launch in 2014, Shopkins has become the most popular collectible line for girls in the country. It continues to grow in popularity and increase its fan base with each new series. Europlay Distributor Co., the exclusive distributor of Shopkins in the Philippines aims to keep this phenomenal craze alive through engaging marketing campaigns in both traditional and digital approach. In line with this they recently launched Shopkins World PH website, and in cooperation with Toy Kingdom they held this 2-day event that captures the delightful Shopkins world through fun and engaging setting at the Atrium, SM Mall of Asia last May 7 and 8.
If you look closely, you'll see Athena behind me. She have this camera shy days and just refuses to have her photos taken. lol
Having 2 little girls and uhm being a kid at heart I was so happy to receive an invite for the May 7 event, honestly, I was more excited than Athena and Brianna. Haha! Jaear and Tristan came with us too since we also had a family event before it. We already arrived late at the Shopville Manila, missed a few activities but nevertheless the kids had a lot of fun!
Just in front of the activity area are Shopkins items, wherein you can purchase and get instant access to Shopville Manila.
For a minimum purchase of Php300 worth of any Shopkins items from April 01 to May 08 at all Toy Kingdom and Toy Kingdom Express stores, kids got one (1) day access (VIP pass) to Shopville Manila which they used to participate in arts and crafts studio, cupcake decoration boutique, Shopkins design workshop, and other activities and treats each station has to offer.
A view from the top. Lots of Shopkins fanatics attended the first ever biggest event and celebrated the success of the cutest collectible line in the market.

Shopkins has gathered many prestigious awards including the Toy of the Year Award from the Toy Industry Association in New York City. Shopkins inspire imagination and encourage social engagement as girls actively pursue for the rare and limited editions from over 500 characters making even their parents hunt madly in search for them. Apart from its retail industry domination, Shopkins has also invaded the digital world with the success of its webisode series available on Youtube and the newest Welcome to Shopville app game.

The kids enjoyed the Shopkins Candy Corner where they indulged in candy haven and satisfied their sweet cravings.

There was a Cupcake Corner where kids can decorate their own cupcakes, we actually missed this activity since we arrived late, but we saw this cutesy Shopkins cake!

We also got to channel our artsy and crafty side with Shopkins and the magical beads of Beados and Glitzi Globes.

If you think Shopkins are only for girls, then you're wrong! Look at this 2 cute boys who also enjoyed Shopville Manila. Tristan and his new found friend Zeekee, the son of Eihdra from www.oneproudmomma.com

Kids also got to Meet & Greet Shoppies and favorite Shopkins characters, Strawberry Kiss, Lippy Lips and Spilt Milk. And to ensure that they'll remember this unique experience, pictures taken at the photo booth are uploaded in shopkinsworld.com.ph where they can post and share on their social media using #ShopvilleManila and #ShopkinsPh.

My 3 kiddos weren't able to take photos with the Shoppies and Shopkins characters because they were busy eating that time. lol

Guest kids also got to play games on the popular Shopkins app powered by their partner, PowerMac. and got to "Design Your Own Shopkins" (where the top 5 designs will be made into a real life Shopkins)

Shopkins fans were also encouraged to bring their collections and visit the Swapkins zone where they traded their duplicate Shopkins characters with fellow collectors to complete their shopping list. One of the kids got over 300 Shopkins collections, whoa! I bet she's happy that she no longer has duplicate items or if not at least it was lessen with the swapping.

Look at these 3 adorable kiddos. With their smiles you can definitely tell that their Shopkins World Live-Experience in Shopville Manila was worth it and that makes me a one happy Momma!

My 2 little girls happy with their new Shopkins toys. Thank you for inviting us and congratulations for a successful event Toy Kingdom and Richprime Global, Inc.!

Powerpuff Girls Mama Jamma’s Day Out: A Cartoon Network's Tribute to Supermoms

Being a mom has always made feel like a super hero! I have the power to make the pain of the boo-boo go away just by kissing it, I get to juggle many things at the same time, survive sleepless nights and so on. Where do I get my superpowers from? Of course, my kids! Their laughter, their innocence, their love is what empowers me.

“So once again, the day is saved. Thanks to The Powerpuff Girls!” The citizens of Townsville are always grateful to the superhero trio for saving the world before bedtime. In reality, our days are saved mostly by superheroes who have been with us since day one – our mothers – and more often than not, we forget to thank them for all the great things they have done.
I always celebrate the day I became a mother and last May 8, 2016, Cartoon Network treated over 5,000 moms and their kids to The Powerpuff Girls Mama Jamma’s Day Out at the Activity Center in Trinoma Mall, Quezon City.

We got the chance to meet and greet the Power Puff Girls. The kids were very happy and that makes me the happiest too! Brianna can't get her eyes off Bubbles, she was stunned by her as her favorite color is yellow! Athena was a bit scared with mascots but still gladly posed with them, cute! Look at Tristan's smile, he was claiming that Blossom's touched her. Haha!

We also enjoyed the Mayor of Townsville’s Photobooth, where we posed like we’re flying over the city of Townsville;

There was a Chemistea Lab, where kids concocted their own delicious beverages; and Bento Baon, where moms and kids bonded over learning how to prepare super-cute, crafty and yummy lunchboxes perfect for school.

In addition, kids also took part in Poaky Oaks Art Classes where they learned to make their own Pillow Puff pillows, design their own picture frames, inflate their own balloons and have their face and body painted. To make this Mother’s Day more memorable, kids were also encouraged to create their own Powerpledge Accessories and exercise their creativity as they make their little promises to their moms. Nothing says “I love you, mom” more than a well-kept promise.

The Powerpuff Girls Mama Jamma’s Day Out was hosted by Karel Marquez, with performances by the Pop Girls and special appearance from celebrity mom Camille Prats and her son.
