No Way Jose: How To Take On Mother Nature And Win

From gale force winds to storms and tornadoes, bad weather has been in the news recently. Sadly, it doesn’t look like the elements are about to calm down anytime soon with Irma and Jose rolling into America. There was even an earthquake in Mexico that measured 8.1 on the Richter scale. With the severe weather being topical, it makes sense to focus on the keys to dealing with Mother Nature. After all, no one knows when she will send something catastrophic in the direction of more homes.

With that in mind, below are the tips which will help you prepare your home for the worst. Here’s how to take on Mother Nature and win.
Reinforce The House

The odds are high that you will have to see out a natural disaster in the safety of your house. If it’s good enough for Richard Branson, it’s good enough for you. The thing is the property might not be a safe place depending on the infrastructure. From the garage doors to the windows, everything needs to be strong which is where A1 Automate comes into play. Otherwise, the weather will rip through the house and cause tons of damage. A great tip is to install shutters on the entry points and new shingles on the roof.

Maintain The Garden

Looking after the garden seems insignificant, but the shrubbery has a significant role to play. Are there trees in your front or back yard? If there are, the wind can tear up their roots and cause them to fall. Once this happens, the risk of a stray tree coming through the roof raises significantly. Plus, any junk in the garden can bang against the house and cause structural damage. By pruning the trees and clearing the clutter, the property should be safe.

Build An Emergency Kit

There are people in the Caribbean who are still cut off from the world a week after Irma. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell when the water and food supply will be back online. Therefore, it is essential to have the basics on hand to help everyone through the hard times. An emergency kit is a solution, but it needs to cover most bases. For example, medicines and drinking water are evident, yet photographic identification isn’t. As a rule, try and pack for as many days as possible just in case the situation escalates.

Create A Plan

All of the tips above are pointless if you don’t know how to act. Let’s face it – the majority of people don’t because disasters aren’t common. As such, creating a plan is the only way to ensure everyone’s safety. The trick is to research the good practices for certain scenarios. For example, in a storm, you should go to the basement and barricade the doors. But, for an earthquake, you need to drop and roll underneath a table or desk. Once you understand how to act, you should inform the rest of the family.

An excellent tip is to write down the plan and post it on the fridge so that it is there for everyone to see.
