Addressing Different Skin Problems

Problem skin can be hell - especially if you’re struggling to keep it under control. As we age, have babies and experience different lifestyle changes, our skin types can change, causing misery as we learn to deal with them. Knowing how to tackle different skin issues will mean you’re ready for anything and will help you get your skin back under control. Take a look at the following tips for tackling different skin issues.

Dry skin

Dry skin is often associated with winter, but it could rear its head at any time, including the summer months. It can be caused by a number of factors including dehydration, too much central heating or air conditioning or using the wrong laundry products or soap. Extreme dry skin in patches on your body could be eczema, which can affect even healthy skin, but can be treated with a number of different treatments. You should also look to see if expired cosmetics could be causing the issue.

To deal with dry skin, you’ll need to ensure that you’re drinking your recommended daily water intake, are moisturizing properly as well as eating a healthy diet. Using oils developed for use on your skin can help to hydrate it for longer, or you could use a richer moisturising cream. Exfoliate every 2-3 days and apply a nourishing face mask once a week. If you see no improvement, start using alternative soaps and laundry detergents and see if that makes a difference.

Oily skin

Oily skin can make you feel like you’re back in high school, especially if it’s causing you to break out! There are many things that can cause oily skin, including poor diet, poor skincare routine, excessive sweating through heat or exercise, and unfortunately for some - genetics. Dealing with oily skin involves reducing production which can be tackled in a number of ways.

It’s important that you cleanse, tone and moisturise twice-daily. Toning will help mop up any excess oil that will leave your skin feeling really clean, while an oil-free moisturiser will help to keep your skin soft without causing it to produce more oil.

Combination skin

Combination skin is a tricky one - you’ve got dry skin in some places and oily in others, such a nightmare! The great news is that there are many products available for combination skin including foaming cleaners, face oils and toners which can tackle both areas at once. Brands like Clinique are perfect for dealing with combination skin, as they have tailored programmes which can fight both the dry and oily elements of your skin.

Using a face mask regularly is a good way to treat combination skin as they can help draw out different impurities while encouraging your skin to nourish itself. Clay masks are very popular at the moment and are an affordable product to try in the fight for better skin. Try using twice a week to notice a visible difference.

Dull, lackluster skin

We’re all jealous of those women with luminous skin that seems to glow from within. If your skin has been looking a little tired or dull, you may wish to look at your lifestyle first before you reach for any miracle cures. Drinking enough water, getting enough sleep and eating a balanced diet can all help you to experience more radiant skin the natural way, and a lifestyle evaluation should be essential if you don’t feel particularly glowing on the inside too.

Regarding products, you’re spoilt for choice with the range of illuminating products that are out there. The right moisturizer will give your skin a radiant look while what you put on next can make the difference between so-so and truly sparkling. An illuminating primer to wear under your skin will give you that fresh-faced, dewy look of someone much younger, and you can also apply a few drops of highlighter to your foundation to give it that extra boost. Strobe creams are one of the best products you can use to make your skin shine (in a good way) and can just be added into your moisturizer. If all else fails, a sweep of highlighter across your cheekbones, forehead and nose and chill will create the illusion of glowing skin and make it look much younger too.

Finding the right treatment for your problem skin will help you to treat it so that it becomes manageable instead of a bother. Sometimes the stress we face from work and family life is all that it takes to upset the balance. Treating yourself to a pamper day or spa experience is a great way of easing your stress levels, and you could even book yourself a prescriptive facial to help work out what’s going on with your skin. Look after your skin and give it the care it needs, and you’ll soon experience the benefits both on the outside, and the inside too.
