The Mom Health Issues No One Tells You About

When we become parents for the first time, many of us are shocked at just how hard it can be. Social media and the mass media both give us a very rose-tinted view of what parenting and motherhood should be like. After all, if you scroll down the Instagram feeds of most mothers, or mom bloggers, you will notice that everything looks pretty cushty. What we all tend to forget, however, is that it only looks this way because the person behind the account has made it look so. Very few people show the true realities of parenthood on their social media feeds - all the arguing, the crying, the tantrums and the health issues that come along with it. It is the latter that is particularly interesting, as many mothers experience a whole myriad of health problems as their children are growing up, but so few people talk about it. Here are some of the most common ones and what you can do if you think you may be suffering from them.

Stress/mental health issues

Admitting that you are feeling low as a new mother still has such a huge stigma around it. So many people seem convinced that no matter what, those early stages of motherhood should be hands down the best time of your life. Therefore, if you are feeling overly stressed or emotionally low, you may feel tempted to simply gloss over it and put on a brave face, to appease other people. This, however, can be incredibly damaging, and as a result, you could even end up resenting your child. If you think you may be suffering from post-natal depression, seek help from your doctor as soon as possible. It is nothing to be ashamed of, and there are plenty of different ways to tackle this issue now.

Aches and pains

Quite often, we forget about the physical demands that are placed upon new parents with small children. There is always so much to do (even with a newborn) that it can sometimes feel as though you never get a moment to sit down. Additionally, as your children grow into their early years, you may find that you spend a lot of time running around after them, playing games and being physically active. That is why when you start getting any internal joint or muscular pain, it can be worrying - after all, you want to be able to play with your kids! Find a trusted way to treat knee pain and make sure you take action at the first signs of there being anything wrong. Leaving a health issue like this only means that it could potentially get worse over time.

Weak immune system

Being a busy mom means that you put your little ones first no matter what. The unfortunate reality is that this can sometimes come at the expense of your own health and wellbeing. A lack of sleep and a poor diet can often mean that new mothers experience a particularly weak immune system, which puts them at greater risk of developing infections and catching airborne diseases. Try to prioritize your own health as well as the health of your child by eating a balanced diet, going to bed at a reasonable time and sipping water throughout the day.
