Cheap Ideas for Summer Activities

Summer is everybody’s favorite time of year. It’s time to get out in the sun. With the kids off school, it can get quite expensive taking them on days out all of the time, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have an enjoyable summer with the whole family. There are plenty of activities that you can do that won’t cost you too much money. Here a few ideas for money saving days out for the whole family.

Bike Rides

Bike rides are a great idea for a summer activity. They are a good opportunity to get some exercise for free and can help you explore the local area. You might need to invest a bit of money in some bikes if you don’t have any already, but you can always check places like craigslist for cheap second-hand ones. You can use route planners to keep track of how far you are cycling and try to increase your distances on regular rides throughout the summer.
Fishing

If you have a river nearby, or you are near the beach, then you can take the family fishing. You may need to invest in the equipment that can sometimes be expensive, but once you have it, a fishing trip is a completely free day out that you can take whenever you like. Visit https://www.takemefishing.org/ for plenty of information on good spots for fishing nearby, as well as beginners tutorials if you have never fished before.

Barbeques

Often the most expensive part about taking the family out for the day is feeding everybody. Eating out can get expensive but having a barbecue can offer a cheaper alternative. A natural gas barbecue is not that expensive and once you’ve bought one, it will last you years. The beauty of having a barbecue is that if you invite all of your friends, they will all bring some food along, so you can eat almost for free, as you are supplying the location and the barbecue.

Camping

Camping is a brilliant way to get away from it all without having to spend a lot of money on an expensive holiday. You can also incorporate a lot of the other activities we’ve talked about like fishing and cycling. There are plenty of places that you can camp for free, click here to find a spot near you. All you need is a tent and you are good to go.

The Beach

Getting to the beach is one of the best summer activities out there. The only costs will be the occasional ice cream, and you can spend a day of fun in the sun with plenty to do. Unfortunately this one is only a viable option if you are lucky enough to be close to the beach, otherwise you won’t make it there and back in a day and you’ll have to pay out for accommodation. As an alternative you could look into local lakes so you can still go swimming in the sun for free.

Using these ideas, you can keep the whole family entertained all summer without breaking the bank.
