Why Exercise during Pregnancy?

Lately I notice that I've been spending too much time in front of the computer. Since my husband works day shift this month of August the computer is mine all day (lol) except of course when I get to do house chores and when my little bosses (my 2 lovely kids) aren't behaving well. Do you know what's keeping me entertained? Online contests! It's been a month already since I first joined and with my first winning which I created a post here I was overjoyed that I wanted some more. Another thing is that I'm also entertained reading different blog which inspired me to create my own.

So in a span of 1 month you can actually say that my life is kinda' sedentary, which isn't something so good especially that I am 6 months preggy with my 3rd. So to cope up and to promote a healthier lifestyle I tried out exercising. Just basic stretching, weight training and some dancing which is made even more fun with my kids joining me. This is my 3rd pregnancy yet my first time to try this, my only exercise during my 2 previous pregnancies was just walking and swimming when I got time.

Here are some of my photos exercising:

It's fun plus I get a lot of benefits from it.

To all preggo mommies out there I encourage you to try exercising as well even just the basic ones. I'll be sharing with you some information I have read on babycenter.com. But of course you must also consult your OB-Gyne for those who are on high risk and because every pregnancy is different.

The best kinds of exercise for pregnancy

  • Walking: One of the best cardiovascular exercises for pregnant women, walking keeps you fit without jarring your knees and ankles. It's also easy to do almost anywhere, doesn't require any equipment beyond a good pair of supportive shoes, and is safe throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

  • Swimming: Healthcare providers and fitness experts hail swimming as the best and safest exercise for pregnant women. Swimming is ideal because it exercises both large muscle groups (arms and legs), provides cardiovascular benefits, and allows expectant women to feel weightless despite the extra pounds of pregnancy.

  • Low-impact aerobics: Aerobic exercise strengthens your heart and tones your body. And if you take a class for pregnant women, you'll enjoy the camaraderie of other moms-to-be and feel reassured that each movement is safe for you and your baby.

  • Dancing: You can get your heart pumping by dancing to your favorite tunes in the comfort of your own living room, with a DVD, or at a dance class, but steer clear of routines that call for leaps, jumps, or twirls.

  • Yoga: Yoga can help maintain muscle tone and keep you flexible with little if any impact on your joints. But you may have to augment a yoga regimen with walking or swimming several times a week to give your heart a workout.

  • Stretching: Stretching is wonderful for keeping your body limber and relaxed and preventing muscle strain. Add stretching to your cardiovascular exercises to get a complete workout.

  • Weight training: If weight training is already part of your exercise routine, there's no reason to stop, although most women should reduce the amount of weight they're lifting (you can do more repetitions to ensure that you're still getting a good workout). If you take the necessary precautions and use good technique (meaning slow, controlled movements), weight training is a great way to tone and strengthen your muscles.

Seven great benefits of pregnancy exercise

1. Boost your energy
Pregnancy can sap your energy, but regular bouts of exercise will help you get through your daily tasks or cope with a demanding schedule: Exercise strengthens your cardiovascular system, so you don't tire as easily. With muscles that are strong and toned, you need less effort to engage in any activity, whether that means grocery shopping or sitting through meetings at the office.

2. Sleep better
When you're carrying an extra 15 pounds (or more!) in front of you, finding a comfortable sleeping position can be a real challenge. But exercise will help you work off any excess energy and tire you enough to lull you into a more restful sleep.

3. Reduce pregnancy discomfort
Overall, regular exercise stretches and strengthens your muscles, which helps your body cope better with the aches and pains of pregnancy. Stretches ease back pain, walking improves your circulation, and swimming can strengthen your abdominal muscles.

4. Prepare for childbirth
It makes perfect sense: The better shape you're in, the stronger you'll be come labor and delivery time. Giving birth is akin to running a marathon, which requires stamina, determination, and focus. Though it hasn't been well researched, training for childbirth through exercise may ease labor and even shorten the time it takes to deliver your baby.

5. Reduce stress and lift your spirits
Having a child is a life-changing, momentous experience that can leave you feeling simultaneously ecstatic, overwhelmed, and anxious. One study found that exercise boosts levels of serotonin, a brain chemical linked to mood, putting you in better spirits.

6. Improve your self-image
Watching the scale inch its way up to numbers you've never seen before can be disheartening. Staying active helps you feel better about yourself and improves your odds of gaining a healthy amount of weight.

7. Get your body back faster after childbirth
This alone is motivation enough for many women to embark on a pregnancy exercise regimen. When you've maintained your strength and muscle tone all through your pregnancy, your body will have an easier time bouncing back after you give birth. You’ll also gain less surplus weight if you exercise during your pregnancy.

Well I just started out the other day and hopefully will be able to comply with it all through out my pregnancy. Who wouldn't wanna feel better and be healthier?

Weekend Happenings

Hi everyone! How was your weekend? Our's (me and my family) was very tiring but fun. We did a lot of things and been to some places which I would want to share with you.

Saturday (July 20), Hubby and I went to the hospital to have some laboratory exam done. My in-laws took the kids with them to Manila as they had to deal with some business matters. Hubby and I finished around 1pm and left the hospital right away. But we were so hungry that we stopped by at Baclaran to have our lunch. We decided to eat at Chowking since I was craving for the Naicha(Milk Tea) and I would also want to try the Golden Chinese Pork. But when we were at the counter already my husband asked if I wanted to order what we usually order and I said yes, and forgot about the Golden Chinese Pork lol.
This may be weird to some, but YES! We love Chowking's Wanton Mami + the Chaofan! This is what we usually order, however I wonder why hubby didn't order the one with Siomai.
And of course the Naicha!

Oh by the way, would like to squeeze in some outfit of the day for Saturday :)

Me and hubby inside the elevator of the building where we live

After we ate, he headed straight home to Manila where Athena baby's sleeping and Kuya Tantan is upstairs playing with the kids.

Later in the afternoon around 4 or 5 I guess, we (mom-in-law, sis-in-law, me and athena) went to Divisoria, it's just a few distance walk from home but we rode a "padyak" or sidecar. We only went to one shopping center the 168 Mall, supposed to buy curtain but ended up buying clothes for the kids. Anyway this is a place to shop especially if you are in a budget. After about 3 or 4 hours we then went home as we are already tired and hungry. We had dinner in this Chinese Restaurant in Manila which I forgot the name, the only thing I remember is that there's a black pig tied up in front (it doesn't stink though, it is well maintained) and according to my in laws they also had snake and other animals upstairs which i didn't get to see. After eating we then drove back home to Las Pinas. It was past 10 in the evening when we arrived so settled everything and put the kids to sleep. Then a refreshing bath for me, and I even got a leg massage from hubby. My leg aches from long periods of walk and standing.

By the way here's some of the stuff we bought:

Php50 each

except for this which we got for 430. Original Price 480

And me wearing the "pantulog" I bought for Php100 only

Sunday (July 21st), did the usual things, house chores, played with the kids and so on.
By the way here's some photos of them wearing the clothes we bought:

Then later that day we went to Las Pinas Bamboo Organ church to hear a mass. Had dinner at "Aling Lucy's" I guess this is my father in laws favorite place, this is the second time he took us here. Then before going home we grabbed some refreshment at Starbucks which I ordered the Green Tea White Chocolate Pudding one of their new beverage.

Oh here's some of our Sunday photos:

Pinky stripes :)

had to put a topper since were going to church

There you have it!

A Great Tuesday It Is!

Happy Tuesday everyone! But for me it's not just Happy it's GREAT TUESDAY!!! Let me tell you why...so read on!

Exactly 1 week ago, 9th of July I was browsing on different blog posts and happened to drop by Mommy Practicality'sblog. Among all her posts, what caught my attention was her post about Cake suppliers just right in time because I was also scouting for themed cakes for my baby's 1st birthday. She featured several Themed cake suppliers and I did check on all of them. On that same day I added Delishaes CAkes facebook page and accepted my friend request right away. Right there and then I saw that they are hosting a giveaway of 30pcs. cupcakes with personalized topper, I hurriedly check what the mechanics are.

I was hesitant to join at first, since the contest requires the most number of LIKES plus those likers must also add Delishaes Cakes' facebook page. I wasn't confident enough that I could get more Likes, and the thought of asking the likers of my status to add the page might be too much. Because for some privacy reasons, they don't wanna add anyone that they don't know. I know it's just a page for cake supplies not an individual account which should be a Fan Page but hey of course they wont change that for the competitions sake. That's the rule so be it, and I tried my like and joined right away! It was a week long contest so we have enough time to gather support from friends. I know I was a bit annoying sending private message to almost all my Facebook Friends asking them for support by liking my status, this went on for a week. I even got my in-laws involved, asking for their friends help. It was kinda funny and desperate on my part, but who cares? I'm on the point where "I want this, i'll do what it takes to win it" haha.

But a day before the contest ends, since the posts of all other contestants are set in public, me and my husband was able to spy on their entry (lol). I kinda lost hope in winning seeing other contestant with more likes on their status than mine. But despite that, I still kept on asking support for those friends that are online.

It was almost midnight, the contest is about to end I wasn't expecting anything already I thought to myself "whatever happens, it was still a good experience" knowing I was able to gather that amount of likes (250) on my status, but as we know that isn't just the criteria for judging. So past midnight, I went to sleep. Woke up early the next morning because of Athena my alarm clock (my baby girl) and also husband's home from work. I went back to sleep as I was still sleepy and left Athena to my husband as he also went online. Then I woke up around 9am and asked him whether the winner was already announced on facebook, but it wasn't yet at that time. My mother in law even called us asking the same thing haha everyone is just excited, except me (i just don't wanna expect). An hour after, my husband went to sleep and I was washing Athena's feeding bottle again I received a call from my mom in law with a good news that the winner was already announced and it was me! Yay, as excited as can be, I hurriedly turned on the computer and logged in on facebook. Whew! Indeed I am the winner, can you believe it? Just when I am about to lose hope, good thing happens! Great Tuesday for me right? Now my baby has 30pcs. cupcakes for her birthday and I felt great! So great that I was inspired to create this blog..in details! hahaha :)And you know what else is great? It's like we had a celebration earlier as hubby bought spaghetti and pies (my favorite) from Jollibee for breaksfast.

By the way, I don't usually join in any contests/raffles I just don't have the luck. But lately i tried joining online giveaways/contests and it's been like 2 weeks already, and this is my 1st WIN and I could get use to this lol so I guess there will be more contests to join!

That's it, that's my Great tuesday kwento. Till next post. Ciao!!
