My love affair with sushi and sashimi goes way back from my childhood.

I grew up in a big family. Both my mom and my dad have like 12 or 13 siblings. (I know!) I was born on my mom's side in Zamboanga but grew up with my dad's side of the family in La Union. And, growing up in a big family means a lot of family gatherings. We gather when there are occasions and we gather almost every weekend. It was really fun, we would sing along to the karaoke, lots of talks and play, and of course, good food which includes sushi and sashimi! Yum!
Sushi and sashimi are a staple in almost all our family gatherings. As kids, we were allowed to have sushi and just a taste of sashimi since it's raw. But as curious and naughty kids (hehe), my cousins and I would sneak some sashimi and wasabi. Then we'd challenge each other, the one who could finish the whole sashimi dipped in wasabi is the toughest! Oh, those were the days.
So for me, sushi and sashimi are not just any food, they are childhood memories. And, just last week, I took a trip down memory lane as I indulged myself in my fave childhood food, but with a twist!
I am talking about Salmon HQ's Salmon Cake and Sushi Bake! Yes, you read that right, there's a thing as Salmon Cake and it's out of this world delicious! Their sushi bakes are also one for the books! I am actually craving right now as I write this and as I edit the photos I took. Shucks!
I got the 6” Salmon Sashimi Cake. I initially thought that it was all slices of Salmon, but as I was about to finish the top part, I was surprised to see what's inside! Layers of Japanese Sushi Rice mixed with Chuka Wakame, Premium Kani kama mixed with Ebiko, and Premium Spicy Salmon. I know right?!
Look at that beauty!
In terms of the Salmon sashimi's freshness, which is of utmost importance. Without a doubt, it tastes as fresh as it looks. It was definitely love at first sight and every bite was like falling in love all over again. I'd gladly replace any cake with this one. Now you know what to get for me on my birthday. :D
Now let's talk about their Sushi bake. I'm sure you are already aware of the hype this food trend has caused since the ECQ started. It's a deconstructed sushi, in a tray and baked. I like the idea of it because you can opt to eat it with seaweed or eat it as is. I've only got to taste sushi bake once so I am glad that Salmon HQ offers a variety of Sushi Bake trays. And, the best part? You can have 2 varieties in one tray. Awesome sauce!
So here's what I got. One tray contains Crunchy California Sushi Bake and Unagi Madness Aburi Sushi Bake, and the other tray was Aburi Scallops, Salmon, Ebi Sushi Bake, and Takoyaki Sushi Bake.
The Crunchy California Sushi Bake, the classic fave but baked. Sushi Rice, a generous amount of Kani with creamy mango and cucumber mix, topped with an extra crunchy tempura batter. Crunchy and creamy, so yuumm!
The Unagi Madness Aburi Sushi Bake. This is topped with Japanese Premium Unagi with a sweet and smoky flavor! The inside is filled with premium Kani kama mixed with Salmon HQ's homemade special sauce, sesame seeds, sushi rice, and topped with 2 kinds of ebiko.
Takoyaki Sushi Bake! OMG! 2 of my faves in one! It's filled with sushi rice, cabbage, premium Kani kama, octopus bits, baby octopus, topped with katsuobushi (bonito flakes), aonori (seaweeds), and our 2 kinds of special sauce. I love this!
Aburi Scallops, Salmon, Ebi Sushi Bake. Seafood overload! It's filled with Scallops, salmon, Ebi, Kani, Salmon HQ's secret sauce, seasoned rice, and topped with more scallops, salmon, Ebi, crunch, ebiko then torched to bring out the sweet smoky aroma and umami flavors.
All the varieties are a must-try! Each tray is loaded, they definitely do not skimp on ingredients and every bite is bursting with flavors! I got the small trays which are good for 2-3 persons but they also have bigger ones, perfect for gatherings.
Salmon HQ absolutely satisfied my cravings. As I savor every bite, it brought back some good old childhood memories and a sense of hope. Just like how Salmon HQ turned the classic sashimi and sushi that I love into something lovelier!
I may not be an expert at giving reviews, but I know what good food is and what food is worth your money. I love eating good food and hate wasting money so believe me when I say Salmon HQ is definitely worth every penny.
