Pregnancy Update: 31 Weeks + Prenatal Check up Issues

"31 Weeks/How your baby's growing:

This week, your baby measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3 1/3 pounds (about the size of a coconut) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. He's probably moving a lot, too, so you may have trouble sleeping because your baby's kicks and somersaults keep you up. Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy."babycenter.com

Friday the 13th was my Prenatal Check Up with my new Obstetrician. I know, 31 Weeks and yet a new OB! I'll be telling you why a little bit later. Alright so you know how the regular check up's go right? I'm not gonna go further on that instead I would wanna talk more about the Ultrasound result.

Let's start with the amniotic fluid that surrounds my unborn baby and allows her to to float and move is Adequate so nothing to be worried about. Because High level or also called Polyhydramnios and Low level or Oligohydramnios are considered abnormal signs and might be a sign of certain condition so a close monitoring by a health care provider is required.

Next, Baby's Fetal Heart tone is 159 bpm (beats per minute) which is normal.

At 31 Weeks my unborn baby is still on Breech presentation. Breech meaning buttocks or feet first as opposed to the normal head first or cephalic presentation. It's still early to be worried though because they will eventually turn on their own over the next 2 months. But comparing this to my 2 previous pregnancy as early as 2nd trimester both Kuya T and Baby A are already positioned head first. Well every pregnancy and baby develops differently. But because of my unborn baby's presentation it was kinda hard to determine the gender, but my OB first thought it was a baby girl but then told me that we can just repeat the ultrasound on my next visit just to be sure. Oh well, we were kinda hoping it to be a boy but whatever God provides we would be more than willing to accept.

Also I don't know what her basis are but my OB told me that my baby is a bit small but not to much of a concern but she just prescribed an additional vitamins.

Based on my LMP, Last Menstrual Period my Expected Date of Delivery is on November 15, 2013 but on the Ultrasound it's November 23, 2013. This is okay though.

We just discussed some important points then after the ultrasound we then scheduled my next visit which is going to be on September 27, 2013.

Okay, so let's now talk about me having a new Obstetrician. Actually it's already my 3rd time switching and hopefully the last. When we found out that I was pregnant I first had my Prenatal at Perpetual Help Medical Center until July. But as soon as we found out that it's gonna cost us around 40-50,000 to have our baby there, we decided to look somewhere else. Seriously that is quite expensive and not practical at all since it's only J who's working. But since we haven't stayed here in Las Pinas even for a year, we are really not familiar with the whereabouts. We don't know where else to go, but we know Las Pinas General Hospital because we would always pass by the said Hospital whenever we go to Baclaran. So we gave it a try. I had Kuya Tantan in a Government Hospital way back 2009 it was in my hometown La Union, though I had my own OB and I was in a private room. If only my OB in Perpetual is affiliated to a different Hospital we may have considered her but she's not so I have to find a new one. So I had my check up twice at LPGH until I decided to look somewhere else again for the following reasons.

First, since it's a Government Hospital there are a lot of patients. I have to be there early in the morning to get a number card. Then I together with the other patients would have to wait until 10 am, because that's the time that Doctors arrive. Imagine I was there 8 am and I got the 47 number card, I have to wait 2 hours for the Doctor and few more hours to be checked because my number card belongs to the last batch. For those 2 check up's I finished past 12 nn.

Second, in a clinic/room there are like 2-3 Doctors and 3 patients at the same time. And i don't like how some Doctors could be so rude, giving unsolicited comments about patients personal life with other people around. In this way confidentiality is already violated. Seriously I don't know how some Doctors who works in a Government/Public areas could be so mean. Is it because these patients don't pay for their service should they deserve to be treated less compared to those who are paying? During my College years when I was still a nursing student, I already had this observation. Reality check, even in the health care service there is inequality. If you have money then you will be getting better service if not, then you have to deal with the consequences. Isn't it sad?

Third, J's working night shift and goes home around 9-10am and by that time the Hospital is no longer giving out card numbers. The first time I had my check up there J's doesn't have work, then for the second time since it was already scheduled I have to be there early so my in laws took the kids to the office where they work and just had J picked them up. We can't do this every time naman, so time conflict talaga.

Good thing, there's a clinic just in front of the Hospital so last September 13th I went there for the first time, and that's where I will be having my Prenatal Check up from now on. But no, I am not having my baby there, not anymore after my bad experience when I gave birth to baby A in a lying in clinic in Manila. My new OB is affiliated to other Hospitals aside from the said clinic, so I have an option as to where I would wanna give birth. But almost all the Hospitals she is affiliated to are Private Hospitals so yes we need to pay, but we already discussed about it and it's way lesser compared to 50,000. Indeed "Money talks" big time! Come to think of it, better treatment from your OB, better Hospital facilities plus no mo waiting for long periods of time, hawak mo pa oras mo.I know we were trying to be practical and would wanna spend less if possible but there's really a conflict eh, so ipon ipon din pag may time.

Friday the 13th + Peeping Tom

What's with Friday the 13th? Ever since I was a child I could recall people labeling this day to be a very unlucky day. My curiosity grows as I grew older and I was able to gather a lot of answers, especially with the help of our friend "Google".

Here are some Theories and Facts about Friday the 13th:

Fascinatingly, there is a term for the fear of Friday the 13th. It is called friggatriskaidekaphobia - "Frigg" is the Norse goddess whom Friday is named after and "triskaidekaphobia" means the fear of "13". It's also known as paraskevidekatriaphobia, partly from the Greek word Friday. It is a real fear - some people who have this disorder are even too afraid to say the words “Friday the 13th”.

Judas - 13th guest at Last Supper

Some say that the concepts of Friday and the number 13 as being an unlucky are linked to the Bible. For example, Judas Iscariot, the apostle who betrayed Jesus, has been labelled as ""the 13th guest" at the Last Supper.

Events that supposedly occurred on a Friday include the great flood during the time of Noah, the confusion of languages at the Tower of Babel, the day Eve tempted Adam with the apple, and the day Jesus Christ died. On Friday 13, October 1307, a warrant was issued for the Knights Templars to be arrested. Masses of Templars were tortured or executed by burning at the stake.

Norse God disrupts banquet

The superstition surrounding Friday 13 could also be linked to Norse mythology. According to legend, 12 gods were at a banquet at Valhalla when Loke, the demi god of mischief who was not invited, turned up, bringing the total number of guests to 13. He was responsible for the chaos that led to the death of one of the good gods – Balder – so all the gods grieved.

Egyptian afterlife

The ancient Egyptians thought the number 13 was lucky because they believed that the 13th stage of life was related to the afterlife. After the decline of the ancient Egyptian civilization the number 13 was still associated with death but with fear.

Symbols

Some people believe that the number 13 and black cats, which are associated with Friday 13, are symbols of femininity. Friday the 13th has been commercialized by Hollywood movies such as American cult horror film “Friday the 13th” and its sequels. An image of a hockey mask is often associated with the film.

Interesting right? Personally, I don't believe in this superstition, because life is what we make it. I mean yes we could set this as guide for us to be more cautious but aside from that, this shouldn't stop us from doing what we needed to do. Like today, I went out to have my prenatal check up although some are telling me not to go out because it's bad luck. But hey, I'm alive and kicking!

Oh and yes I almost forgot about "Peeping Tom" that is what I call this guy, one of the maintenance staff where we live. This guy cleans the whole building everyday, including the hallway in front of our Unit.I have caught him several times peeping on the screen door whenever he's cleaning. But I just ignored it because maybe it wasn't intentional instead I just close the door. But recently, we changed our curtain and it was kinda thin where we could be seen from the outside. And during that time when I became paranoid as if someones peeping on us. One time I saw him cleaning, I was in the living room using the computer. I noticed him peeping, as in he was even putting his head against the glass window, but I didn't look back I was just looking from the mirror. I was freaked out, since it was just me and kids so I didn't approached him and just waited for him to leave. I told J about it that night. And earlier today, I woke up to the slamming of the door and J talking in a mad and loud manner. Guess what, he also caught "Peeping Tom" looking through the window, maybe he didn't notice J because he was looking directly into the open room where I was sleeping. Busted! We then called the Property Management Office and reported the incident. Isn't it scary? But good thing we caught him in the act, so he wont have any excuse at all. I just hope this doesn't happen anymore or assign someone else to clean the building. We just don't know what this man is capable of, right? I've been hearing a lot of horrible things in the news which really scares me. By the way according to other Unit owner they also caught the same guy peeping through the window in one of the units on the same floor where we live. This is a serious thing to be ignored.

Athena's Barbie Themed 1st Birthday Party at Jollibee

It only seems like yesterday when I carried another life in my womb and gave life to a healthy baby 9 months after. It was exactly a year ago September 8, when I gave birth to our first born baby girl, same birthday as Mama Mary that's why we named her Athena Mary. And I can't believe how time flies so fast, our baby girl has turned 1 already!
baby A wearing a princess barbie outfit.

It's a very special occasion so we want this to be a memorable one, We planned on celebrating her 1st birthday with relatives and friends and with Jollibee :)
We planned about this party 2 months ahead of time.We decided to held the party in Manila although we now live in Las Pinas because our visitors are all from Manila. It was my in laws who looked for the venue, since they work in Manila, during their free time or after work they would drive around and scout for availble Jollibee branches. As early as July almost all Jollibee branches are already reserved for September parties. Good thing there's still one place that is available for September 8, 2013, it was Jollibee at Harrison Plaza. After informing us about this, we agreed to have it reserved already.

I am very thankful that my in laws are helping us out, because I really can't go out as I am taking care of 2 kids and is currently pregnant. But hey did you know that reserving a Jollibee Party can be done online? Yes, you can check it here Jollibee Online Party Reservation.

There are only 3 steps.
STEP 1: FIND a STORE

Just enter the required field.

STEP 2: PLAN YOUR PARTY

      a. Choose Your Party Theme                                      b. Party Favors

For the Party Theme, originally my mother in law chose the Hello Kitty theme but we changed it to barbie but subconsciously I was thinking about Princess theme, which they don't have (lol). Then we were informed that we couldn't change it back to Hello Kitty anymore, so we just stick to Barbie.
There is a Party Fee of Php1,250.00 and that includes:
  • 1 Jollibee Mascot Appearance
  • 20 Game Prizes
  • 1 Message Board
  • 30 Balloons
  • 10 Boxes of Crayons
We had Party Favors Add-on, a set of Barbie Theme favors with an additional payment of Php 210.00 and it consists of the following: (We reserved for 30 pax)
  • 30 pcs Party Hats with Name Tag
  • 30 pcs. Invitation Cards
  • 30 pcs. Tray Line
Thy also offer Loot Bags, which consists of Barbie themed items worth Php60. But we didn't avail of it, because we thought of having our own souvenir.

c. Choose Your Food Packages

You could have food add on's on the existing Food Packages.
Prices are VAT inclusive

You have an option to create your Meal, which is what we did and here's what we chose:
  • 30-pcs REgular Coke for a total of Php900.00
  • 30-pcs of Chocolate Sundae for a Total of Php750.00
  • 30-pcs Regular Yum for a Total of Php840.00
  • 30-pcs Chicken Joy with Spaghetti for a Total of Php2,910.00

a total of Php5,400

All of our guests are J's relatives since mine are all in the province. We invited some of our colleagues from our previous work but non of them made it, too bad they were all Athena's Godparents. Also I'm thankful that my friends Ruby and Karen made it to the party, they are the only guest from my side. Although our colleagues didn't make it we exceeded the 30 head count, our guests including us are 46 in total. So
additional 16-pcs of the food package.

d.  Theme Cakes by Red Ribbon
For the Barbie Theme Cake you can choose from Chocolate or Mocha
Medium size is 900.00

STEP 3: PAY ONLINE
You can pay for the full amount or make a Php3,000 deposit and just pay for the balance right after the party.

Okay so for the cake, I find their cake so small so we didn't avail of it and checked somewhere else instead. But the cake couldn't be served to the guest, it's only for display.

Fondant Barbie Cake which we ordered from Aling Noni's,
we also ordered our wedding cake from her.

Mini cupcakes with Personalized Toppers from Delishaes Cakes.
There is a story behind these cupcakes, I won this from their Facebook promo contest last July and decided to add this to baby A's birthday...lucky eh? You can check my post here. These cupcakes are supposed to serve as giveaways/souvenirs but then we thought that it should be something for keeps that's why we didn't have it individually boxed. But since we were all busy we weren't able to prepare any giveaways anymore :(

Jollibee also provided a tarpaulin but we can't have it so we just made our own.

Sat-Oh-Day!

Woohoo Saturday is almost over and tomorrow is baby A's 1st birthday already, i'm really excited! But also hoping that her rashes caused by Baby Measles would be all gone by tomorrow.
Well anyways a lot of things happened today, and they are all good so I am posting away some good vibes before ending this day.

It was just last Thursday when we took baby A to the hospital but since it wasn't her Pedia who checked her up we were advised to take her back Saturday. So as soon as J arrived home, we immediately took off because baby A's Pedia is only until 11 am. Since we already knew it was just baby measles we were advised the same thing and to take baby A back if there is a recurrence of fever (hopefully not).
We finished in no time so we went straight to SM Center Las Pinas to meet up with Angelique Misa. You may ask who she is, well she is the blogger behind
Lady With Random Thoughts. Last August I joined and luckily won her Anniversary giveaway. The prize should be shipped to me but knowing that we are both from Las Pinas we agreed to just meet up so she could personally hand me my prize. We agreed to meet up in SM Center it's just near Perpetual Help Medical Center and where Angelique lives.
We weren't able to chitchat even for a while coz she seems to be in a hurry, as soon as we saw each other, exchange of "Hi's", handed me the prize and then she said goodbye and took off. I was actually planning to have our photos taken while she is handing me the prize (arte lang hehe) and maybe have a few talk with her. But she texted me and told me she is about to take her kapatid to school, that's why (hehe). Anyway maybe you are already curious as to what the prize is right?
And here it is...
A cool Mustache Watch
Me wearing it.

So after she left since it was already lunch time, we decided to have our lunch there. We ate at Jollibee as per Kuya Tantan's request. Every time we eat at Jollibee I always order the Chicken Spaghetti Meal, but since baby A's birthday will be held at Jollibee and we chose that meal for her birthday I decided to order something else. Something I haven't tried yet, so I ordered the Jollibee Ultimate Burger Steak.
Jollibee Ultimate Burger Steak with Egg on Rice

Seriously, I don't know how to eat it. Do I have to eat the fries and the burger steak together with the rice and egg? (lol) I personally love Jollibee's burger steak and I soo love french fries, but for me this meal is kinda weird. The only thing I like about it is the burger patty is bigger compared to the regular ones and I like the garlic on top of it and that's it. For me french fries is still best eaten separately and drenched with ketchup, yum! I know better now, next time I wont order this meal anymore, instead I will just order a burger steak meal and french fries separately. (Tee hee)

After eating we went straight home because J is already sleepy. He came all over from night shift, he was even sleeping on our way home. So as soon as we went home, he slept right away so I also put the kids to sleep. I am not sleepy so I proceeded with my "Me" time, and that's going online :) This is the only time I get  uninterrupted time in front of the computer so I have to take advantage of it while they are sleeping (lol).
And guess what, as soon as I logged on to my Facebook Account I found out that I won again...yes another winning!

My name is spelled incorrectly, but that's me! haha

It was an Anniversary giveaway hosted by a fashion blogger Jaqui Perez of  Styledom. This giveaway was hosted by different Online Shops and my prize is a Jewelry Box from the Sissy Shoppe. Yey! This is why I love joining contests :) As soon as i receive my prize I will post photos of it.

Okay so that's it for now, gotta prepare for baby A's party. Good night =)

Baby Measles: Things You Should Know!

So yesterday baby A's fever already subsided but this afternoon we took her back to the Hospital. No not because of fever but because while we were changing her diaper I noticed that there were few rashes on her torso. I immediately thought of measles, chicken pox or any of the kind. Though I am a nurse I was actually confused, you know since I graduated and passed the Nursing Licensure Exam I wasn't able to put my profession into practice (Nakaka-kalawang ng utak pag nasa bahay lang lol). So I just Googled it up based on the signs and symptoms that baby A manifested and it turns out to be Baby Measles. Although we already knew what it was, we still decided to take her to the Hospital so that this would be noted on her records. Her Pediatrician is no longer available so we went to see a different Pediatrician instead. Upon assessment, she confirmed that it's just Baby Measles. There isn't a treatment for this, the rashes usually heal after 2-3 days, though she prescribed Cetirizine an anti-histamine because the rashes could be itchy and might make her irritable.

Anyways let me just squeeze in some photos :)

Picture-picture before we left

Kuya Tantan striking a pose.

Baby Athena's OOTD. No rashes on her face yet.

Photos were taken at the hospital while waiting for our turn.

As you can see on the photos above baby Athena's face doesn't have any rashes yet, it was still around her torso. But all through the day, the rashes continue to spread out until it reaches her face.

Photos were taken just this evening.

Poor baby A, this rashes could last for 3 days. Hopefully, by Sunday it will all be gone because that's her 1st birthday.

It's my first time to encounter this with my kid. Kuya Tantan didn't have this before. It's nothing really serious but still knowing my baby is sick makes me feel sad. Besides, since it's viral and we live in the same household it could be transmitted to Kuya Tantan and me. Good thing I am already on my third trimester so I don't have to worry about the congenital anomaly. Though it could cause infection to me and it might be transmitted to the baby, so on my next Prenatal, I should inform my OB that I was exposed to Roseola virus/Baby measles.

Alright, so I just wanna raise awareness about this disease, Here are things you should know about Baby Measles. Read on...

Baby Measles

Roseola infantum is mostly called baby measles. It is a contagious viral baby illness, a bit like the other contagious childhood illnesses, and is often mistaken for either measles (Rubeola) or German measles (Rubella). Babies usually contract it between six months and two years (more commonly in the first year). Roseola is harmless and parents don't have to be concerned.

Symptoms

Roseola starts quite suddenly with a high temperature which usually lasts for about three days. Strangely though, there seems to be nothing really wrong with the baby. Baby's temperature peaks to very high levels with Roseola, often tipping the mercury at 39C and 39.5C. After about three days, the fever suddenly breaks and at about the same time, a fine pink rash erupts over baby's torso and just encroaches onto the upper arms and thighs. During this time, the baby is usually very irritable and his behavior and appetite are far more likely to be disturbed than during the fever stage. All symptoms of the rash and irritability should clear within about five to seven days of the eruption of the rash

Treatment

There is no real treatment for Roseola, but use these tips to keep the fever under control:
  • Undress baby and keep only his vest and nappy on.
  • Cool the room by opening all the windows and switching on a fan. Don't put your little one in a draught though.
  • Wrap cool wet linen cloths around your baby's legs and arms, changing them every couple of minutes.
  • Place a face flannel with ice blocks on the nape of baby's neck or forehead.
  • Bath baby in tepid water - not cold.
  • Increase your baby's liquid intake.
  • Use a homoeopathic fever support treatment like Fever drops or the tissue salt remedy Ferrum phos during the day. This will not break his fever but will help the body deal with the underlying infection more rapidly and often prevents the need for other medicine.
  • Avoid giving small babies and children aspirin. Paracetamol-based medication is safer.
  • To help baby through the itchy phase, add a pot of rooibos tea and a handful of bicarbonate of soda to his bathwater and apply a calendula-based cream to soothe the itch. Keep up baby's fluid intake but don't force him, to eat if he doesn't want to.
The difference between Rubella, Rubeola and Roseola

Rubella (German measles)

Rubella is a highly infectious viral disease which mostly affects children, adolescents and young adults, and is spread by airborne droplets. It is a fairly mild disease and only a slight risk of secondary encephalitis exists. Your child will feel a bit under the weather for 10 days to two weeks before the rash appears. Many outbreaks are so mild as to go unnoticed.

The tiny pinkish-red spots of Rubella look more like a patch than individual spots, and they can first be detected behind the ears and on the forehead, thereafter spreading to the rest of the body. The rash passes after two to three days. Swollen lymph glands can be detected in the nape of the neck. A rise in temperature of up to 38¡C is common, but consult your doctor should it increase. Be on the lookout for signs of a headache and a stiff neck, then seek medical help immediately.

Rubeola (Measles)

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease, mostly without serious complications. The measles virus spreads by small droplets from the nose, throat or mouth of an infected person.

Symptoms like a runny nose and coughs occur during the incubation period, which is between eight and 12 days. Your child's temperature can rise to 40C, and he might complain of a headache at this stage. Small, white spots on the inside of the cheeks, called Koplik spots, will confirm the diagnosis of measles. Your child will probably also experience sensitivity to bright light and the eyes will be painful and red. After about three days, a brownish-red rash begins behind the ears, which soon spreads to cover the face and the whole trunk.

Special Delivery: My Haul for Today

Hey there, how's your Wednesday? Mine is pretty good, everything seems to fall in to place.
Right I told you we were supposed to bring baby A back to her Pediatrician for a follow up check up? We didn't, it's because her fever already subsided this morning. She was a bit feverish the afternoon but subsided after a dose of her Paracetamol and until now she is okay, no fever. And knowing my baby is okay now makes me feel better.

But you know what made this day extra better? A Special Delivery! Maybe Kuya Guard is already curious as to why we always have parcels (since we live in a condominium all parcels are handed over to the Guards then to be handed over to our Unit).
It was almost night time when Kuya Guard came knocking on our door, first I thought he is just giving out a memo but what he handed to J(my husband) was a shiny light blue plastic package and I got excited when he read out my name! I kinda had an idea as to what the package contains, but still I was very excited. So as usual, I took a photo of the package first before I opened it up.
The Packaging
And I was right! The other night I was tagged on Instagram that the bags will be shipped the next day.
A Checkered Satchel Bag and The Body Shop BB Cream =)

I won these awesome prizes last August from Bonjour Bella and was sponsored by Sunny Side Up. Actually I'm supposed to get the UK design satchel bag however I believe there was a mix up and this checkered bag was the one shipped to me instead. But that's not a biggy, they both look good anyways. So yey, I got a new bag! It's been a while since I bought a bag, it was way back 2011 when I was still working and have the money haha!
As for the BB Cream since I don't get to go out I wont be able to use it yet and besides I don't put on any make up when I go out. I'm the loose powder and just lipstick kind of girl and i'm good to go. But using it wont hurt me right, maybe I'm gonna give it a try!

This is why I love joining contests, getting free stuff yay! =)
